Overview
The Fisker Ocean Ultra was a seriously stylish electric SUV aiming to shake up the premium market with its eco-chic vibes and solid performance. This all-wheel-drive variant, built in Austria, offered a compelling blend of innovative features and sustainable design before its production concluded in 2024. With distinctive looks and a spacious interior, the Ultra targeted buyers wanting practicality without skimping on flair. As a recently discontinued model, it's now appearing on the used market, with estimated prices around €29,999 in Europe, offering a lot of EV for the money if you can snag one.
What's New for 2024?
For 2024, the Fisker Ocean Ultra represented the culmination of its short but impactful production run, which spanned from 2023 into early 2024. There weren't major year-on-year changes as it was a new entrant; rather, 2024 models featured the latest software updates rolled out during its brief lifespan. Significantly, 2024 also marked the unfortunate end of its production due to Fisker's financial challenges. This means any 2024 Ocean Ultra is effectively the final, most up-to-date version of this ambitious electric SUV available on the market, primarily as a pre-owned vehicle.
Design & Exterior
The Fisker Ocean Ultra is a proper head-turner, boasting a muscular yet sleek SUV profile. Its design is modern and athletic, with slim LED lighting at both ends and distinctive character lines. Unique touches like the available "California Mode," which drops all windows (even the rearmost "Doggie Windows") and slides back the optional SolarSky roof (though the Ultra primarily featured a standard glass roof), gave it serious cool points. The Ultra rides on stylish alloy wheels, typically 20-inchers. Key dimensions are a commanding length of 4775 mm, a substantial width of 1982 mm (mirrors excluded), and a height of 1629 mm.
Interior, Tech & Cargo
Inside, the Ocean Ultra championed sustainability with an abundance of recycled and vegan materials, creating a modern, airy cabin. The showstopper is the massive 17.1-inch "Revolve" touchscreen, which can rotate from portrait to landscape – pretty trick! Passenger space is generous for five adults. For your kit, there's 476 litres of boot space, expanding to 918 litres with the rear seats folded down, which is decent. Unlike some rivals, the Ocean Ultra skips a frunk, focusing storage at the rear. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity are typically included for seamless smartphone integration.
Performance & Driving Experience
The Ocean Ultra packs a proper punch with its dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup, delivering a hefty 420 kW of power and 737 Nm of torque from its Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors. This translates to a nippy 0-100 km/h sprint in just 4.2 seconds and a top speed of 206 km/h – plenty quick for a family SUV! On the road, it offers a comfortable ride with confident handling, and selectable drive modes like "Earth," "Fun," and "Hyper" let you tailor the experience. Regenerative braking is, of course, part of the package, helping to recoup energy.
Range, Battery & Charging
The Ocean Ultra is equipped with a substantial 106.5 kWh (usable) battery pack, providing a Green Cars Compare calculated real-world range estimate of around 561 kilometres, which is seriously competitive. Its energy efficiency is rated at a decent 5.27 km/kWh. For charging, it uses a CCS Type 2 port. At home or a public AC charger, the standard 11 kW on-board unit can replenish the battery in roughly 9-10 hours. Find a potent DC fast charger, and the Ultra can guzzle electrons at up to 250 kW, zapping the battery from 10-80% in about 30-35 minutes.
Safety & Driver-Assistance Features
While the Fisker Ocean Ultra did not receive a Euro NCAP safety rating before its discontinuation, it was designed with a strong focus on safety. It typically came equipped with Fisker's "Intelligent Pilot" suite of driver-assistance systems. This usually included features like adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, and traffic sign recognition as standard on the Ultra trim. Parking aids and a surround-view camera system were also commonly part of its comprehensive safety package, aiming to provide peace of mind on the move.
Warranty & Maintenance Coverage
Originally, Fisker offered a fairly comprehensive warranty for the Ocean: a basic vehicle warranty of 6 years/100,000 km, a powertrain warranty of 10 years/160,000 km, and a battery warranty for 10 years/160,000 km, guaranteeing at least 75% health. However, with Fisker ceasing operations and filing for bankruptcy in 2024, the practical enforceability of these warranties is now highly uncertain. Maintenance for EVs is generally lower than petrol cars, but long-term parts and service support for the Ocean Ultra may be a challenge given the company's status.
