Overview
The Rivian R1T is the electric pickup that rewrote the rulebook, blending rugged adventure capability with futuristic tech and blistering performance. The Dual-Motor Standard+ trim, though now discontinued, represented a compelling package within the lineup. It combined a substantial battery with Rivian’s in-house motors for a fantastic balance of range, power, and everyday usability. While never officially sold in Europe, its unique combination of a premium cabin, clever storage like the Gear Tunnel, and serious off-road credibility makes it a highly sought-after import for those wanting the ultimate lifestyle EV.
What's New for 2024?
The 2024 model year marks the final production run for this specific trim, and its main highlight is the powertrain itself. This version features Rivian's in-house developed "Enduro" motor setup. Replacing the previous Bosch-supplied quad-motors on higher trims, this dual-motor configuration was engineered to boost efficiency and streamline production. Paired with the Standard+ battery pack, this setup became a core offering, delivering a more accessible entry into R1T ownership without sacrificing the performance and all-wheel-drive capability that made the truck famous. It's the most refined version of this particular spec.
Design & Exterior
You won't mistake the Rivian R1T for anything else on the road. Its signature front end, with the vertical "stadium" headlights and full-width daytime running light bar, is instantly iconic. The design is clean and minimalist, yet exudes a tough, ready-for-anything vibe. It’s a substantial vehicle, measuring 5514 mm in length, 2014 mm in width, and 1986 mm in height. The standout feature is the ingenious "Gear Tunnel," a 331-litre pass-through storage space between the cab and the bed, perfect for stashing wet gear or charging cables.
Interior, Tech & Cargo
Inside, the R1T boasts a stunning, modern cabin that feels like a blend of Scandinavian design and premium outdoor gear. Materials like sustainable wood and high-quality vegan leather create a luxurious yet durable atmosphere for five occupants. Tech is dominated by a huge central touchscreen that controls nearly all vehicle functions. A major point to note: there is no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto support. However, its practicality is undeniable, with a massive 314-litre frunk, a versatile rear bed, and a total cargo capacity that leaves rivals in the dust.
Performance & Driving Experience
Don’t let the "Standard" badge fool you; this pickup is seriously quick. The dual PMSM motors deliver a combined 397 kW and a massive 827 Nm of torque to all four wheels, catapulting this beast from 0-100 km/h in a blistering 4.7 seconds. On the road, the standard air suspension provides a surprisingly smooth and comfortable ride, but can also raise the vehicle for impressive off-road ground clearance. It feels more agile than its size suggests, and strong, adjustable regenerative braking allows for one-pedal driving in many situations.
Range, Battery & Charging
This R1T is equipped with a 121 kWh usable battery pack, which provides an estimated real-world range of 482 km, as calculated by Green Cars Compare. That's plenty for long road trips, with an efficiency of around 3.98 km/kWh. For AC charging, the 11.5 kW on-board unit can fully replenish the battery overnight. When you need a quick top-up, its 400V architecture can handle DC fast charging speeds up to 215 kW. European models would utilize the standard CCS Type 2 port for maximum compatibility.
Safety & Driver-Assistance Features
Though not officially rated by Euro NCAP due to its US-market focus, the R1T has earned top safety accolades from the American IIHS. Every R1T comes standard with Rivian's 'Driver+' suite of assistance systems. This impressive package includes 'Highway Assist' (adaptive cruise control with lane centering), blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic emergency braking. It's a comprehensive set of features designed to enhance driver confidence and safety, making long journeys more relaxing and city driving less stressful, all without ticking any option boxes.
Warranty & Maintenance Coverage
Rivian backs the R1T with a solid warranty. Owners are covered by a comprehensive new vehicle warranty for 5 years or 96,000 km. More importantly for an EV, the battery pack and drivetrain components are protected for 8 years or 160,000 km, whichever comes first. This includes a guarantee that the battery will retain at least 70% of its original capacity during that period. Maintenance is handled through Rivian's direct service model, and while it doesn't include complimentary scheduled visits, the robust coverage provides significant peace of mind.
