Overview
The 2025 Tesla Model Y Premium AWD is the much-anticipated refresh of the world's best-selling EV, and it’s poised to tighten its grip on the electric SUV crown. Slotting in as the range-focused champion, this dual-motor, all-wheel-drive variant offers the perfect blend of performance and practicality for families. It’s the definitive sweet spot in the updated line-up, delivering impressive range and tech without the neck-snapping price of the Performance model. With an estimated new price of €53,970 in Europe, it continues to offer compelling value in a fiercely competitive market.
What's New for 2025?
For 2025, the Model Y gets its long-awaited 'Juniper' refresh, and it’s a big one! The Premium AWD benefits from a sleeker exterior design, echoing the sharp new look of the updated Model 3. Expect slimmer headlights and a more aggressive stance. Inside, the cabin gets a major uplift with higher-quality materials, customisable ambient lighting, and potentially a rear screen for passengers. Critically, Tesla has reworked the suspension to deliver a much more refined and comfortable ride, addressing a key complaint of the outgoing model. It's a seriously comprehensive overhaul.
Design & Exterior
The 2025 Model Y Premium AWD looks sharper and more sophisticated than ever. The front end is cleaner with new, slender matrix LED headlights, while the revised bumpers give it a lower, wider appearance. It’s still unmistakably a Model Y, but with all the awkward bits smoothed out. This trim rolls on stylish aero-optimised wheels as standard. Measuring 4,790 mm long, 1,982 mm wide, and 1,624 mm tall, its new proportions give it a more planted and athletic road presence. It’s evolution done right, keeping the iconic shape while adding a touch of class.
Interior, Tech & Cargo
Step inside, and the minimalist cabin has had a premium makeover. New soft-touch materials, a wraparound ambient lighting strip, and improved sound insulation create a properly premium feel. The central 15.4-inch touchscreen remains your command centre, now slicker and more responsive, though still no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Passenger space is still brilliant for five adults. When it comes to practicality, it’s a class leader, boasting a massive 854-litre boot, a useful 117-litre frunk, and a cavernous 2,138 litres with the rear seats folded flat.
Performance & Driving Experience
Don’t let its family SUV looks fool you; the Premium AWD has some serious poke. With its dual-motor setup—an induction motor up front and a permanent magnet motor at the rear—it puts down a combined 378 kW and 493 Nm of torque. That's enough to launch this SUV from 0-100 km/h in a rapid 4.8 seconds. The all-wheel-drive system provides immense, sure-footed traction in all conditions. Thanks to the 2025 refresh, the ride is now smoother and more comfortable, while the one-pedal driving mode remains superbly intuitive for city driving.
Range, Battery & Charging
The Premium AWD is the marathon runner of the range. Its 79 kWh usable battery pack delivers an impressive real-world range of 525 km, as calculated by Green Cars Compare, with an excellent efficiency of 6.65 km/kWh. At home on an 11 kW AC wallbox, a full charge takes around 8 hours. Out on the road, it’s a different story. Hooked up to Tesla’s Supercharger network via its CCS Type 2 port, it can guzzle electricity at up to 250 kW, adding hundreds of kilometres of range in under 30 minutes.
Safety & Driver-Assistance Features
Safety is a Tesla hallmark, and the Model Y carries a top-tier 5-star Euro NCAP rating. Every Premium AWD comes equipped with 'Autopilot' as standard, which includes adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist, making motorway journeys a breeze. For more advanced features, you can option 'Enhanced Autopilot', which adds automatic lane changes and navigation-based driving. The full 'Full Self-Driving Capability' package is also available, adding traffic light and stop sign control in urban environments. A comprehensive suite of active safety features, like emergency braking, is always included.
Warranty & Maintenance Coverage
Tesla’s warranty package provides solid peace of mind. The basic vehicle is covered for 4 years or 80,000 km, whichever comes first. Crucially, the heart of the car—the 79 kWh battery and dual-motor drive unit—gets an extensive 8-year or 192,000 km warranty, guaranteeing at least 70% battery capacity retention over that period. There are no mandatory annual servicing schedules, which keeps running costs low. Tesla simply recommends periodic checks on items like brake fluid and cabin air filters, which can be booked easily through the app.
