Overview
The Volkswagen ID.4 Pro is a brilliant all-rounder in the competitive electric SUV ring, perfectly blending practicality with modern tech. For 2025, it’s packing a serious punch thanks to a significant powertrain upgrade, making it a more compelling choice than ever for families switching to electric. It’s a comfortable, spacious, and user-friendly EV that aims to be the sensible default choice. With a new price of around €46,335 in Europe, it offers a solid package of range and performance, positioning itself as a strong rival to competitors from Korea and the US.
What's New for 2025?
The big news for the 2025 ID.4 Pro is the carry-over of the stellar 2024 model year updates. The star of the show is a new, more powerful, and efficient rear motor, which completely transforms the driving experience. Inside, VW has finally listened to feedback, installing a much-improved infotainment system with a larger, more responsive 12.9-inch screen and, crucially, backlit sliders for volume and climate control. The clunky rotary gear selector is also gone, replaced by a simpler stalk on the steering column for a cleaner, more intuitive cockpit.
Design & Exterior
The ID.4 Pro's design is smooth, clean, and unmistakably part of VW’s electric ID family. It avoids aggressive angles for a friendly, aerodynamic look, featuring signature LED light bars at the front and rear that give it a distinct presence at night. It’s a well-proportioned SUV, measuring 4584 mm in length, 1852 mm in width, and 1634 mm in height, giving it a solid stance on the road without being overly bulky. The Pro trim strikes a great balance with stylish alloy wheels, making it a handsome, if understated, family hauler.
Interior, Tech & Cargo
Step inside the ID.4 Pro and you're greeted by a minimalist and airy cabin with excellent passenger space, a key benefit of its dedicated EV platform. While some plastics feel a bit budget, the overall design is clean and functional. The updated 12.9-inch central touchscreen is a massive improvement, running slicker software with standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. For practicality, it’s a champion: you get a generous 543-litre boot, which expands to a cavernous 1575 litres with the rear seats folded. There is, however, no frunk for extra storage.
Performance & Driving Experience
This is where the ID.4 Pro has had a proper glow-up. The new rear-wheel-drive setup uses a potent Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) dishing out 210 kW and a massive 545 Nm of torque. That's enough grunt to launch this family SUV from 0-100 km/h in a brisk 6.7 seconds. On the road, it’s wonderfully quiet and comfortable, soaking up bumps with ease. While it’s not a sports car, the instant torque makes it feel lively and responsive around town. The 'B' driving mode provides strong regenerative braking for easy one-pedal driving.
Range, Battery & Charging
The ID.4 Pro is equipped with a 77 kWh usable battery pack that delivers a very respectable real-world range of 465 km, as calculated by Green Cars Compare, with an efficiency of 6.04 km/kWh. For home charging, the standard 11 kW on-board AC charger will top up the battery overnight. When you’re on the move, its 400V architecture and CCS Type 2 port support DC fast charging at up to 175 kW. This means you can blast the battery from 10% to 80% in under 30 minutes, getting you back on the road quickly.
Safety & Driver-Assistance Features
Safety is a top priority for the ID.4, backed by a full 5-star rating from Euro NCAP. The Pro trim comes generously equipped with VW's IQ.DRIVE suite of assistance systems as standard. This includes essentials like Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, and Front Assist with emergency braking and pedestrian detection. For those wanting even more advanced tech, options like Travel Assist with swarm data offer more sophisticated semi-autonomous driving capabilities, helping to reduce fatigue on long motorway journeys and making it an exceptionally safe family car.
Warranty & Maintenance Coverage
Volkswagen provides solid peace of mind for ID.4 Pro owners. The crucial high-voltage battery is covered by an 8-year or 160,000 km warranty, guaranteeing it will retain at least 70% of its original usable capacity. The vehicle itself typically comes with a 2-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty across Europe, with options to extend. Like all EVs, maintenance is minimal compared to a petrol or diesel car, with no oil changes needed. This means fewer trips to the dealer and lower running costs over the life of the vehicle, adding to its overall appeal.
