Overview
The 2025 Chevrolet Silverado EV WT Extended Range is a proper all-electric workhorse, designed to blend rugged utility with staggering EV performance. Aimed squarely at the commercial market, this trim prioritises function over frivolity, boasting a colossal battery pack and immense capability. Its key selling points are its massive real-world range and a highly practical design, including a versatile ‘eTrunk’ frunk for secure storage. While not officially sold in Europe, its combination of power and practicality makes it a fascinating proposition. Official European pricing is unavailable, but it would command a premium as an import.
What's New for 2025?
For 2025, the Silverado EV lineup truly blossoms, making the established WT Extended Range a core part of a much broader family. The biggest news is the arrival of other, more consumer-focused trims, including the fully-loaded RST First Edition and the off-road-ready Trail Boss. This expansion provides a wider spectrum of choice, from this utilitarian WT model to high-performance luxury variants. While the WT Extended Range itself sees minimal changes, it now sits as the foundational long-range work truck in a more complete and compelling all-electric pickup portfolio from Chevrolet.
Design & Exterior
The Silverado EV WT presents a clean, futuristic take on the classic pickup, with a functional aesthetic befitting its work-truck status. Unlike the flashier RST trim, the WT features durable, unpainted fascias and simple steel wheels. Its most clever trick is the Multi-Flex Midgate, which allows the wall behind the rear seats to fold down, extending the bed into the cab for hauling extra-long items. It’s an absolute giant, measuring a massive 5920 mm in length, 2165 mm in width, and 1982 mm in height, giving it an undeniable road presence.
Interior, Tech & Cargo
Inside, the WT trim is all business, featuring a durable, easy-to-clean cabin with vinyl floors and hard-wearing plastics. It comfortably seats five people in its spacious crew cab. The infotainment system is surprisingly modern for a base model, centered around a responsive touchscreen with standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. For storage, it’s a champion. You get a massive 1634-litre bed, which can be extended with the Midgate, plus a weather-proof front trunk—or ‘frunk’—that adds another 303 litres of lockable, secure space for tools or gear.
Performance & Driving Experience
Don't let the 'Work Truck' name fool you; this thing shifts. Its dual-motor, all-wheel-drive system, featuring front and rear Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors, delivers a robust 380 kW and a hefty 787 Nm of instant torque, launching the massive truck from 0-100 km/h in just 6.3 seconds. The driving experience is shockingly refined, with the GM Ultium platform providing a smooth and quiet ride. Independent front and rear suspension soak up bumps beautifully, while adjustable regenerative braking allows for efficient one-pedal driving, making it surprisingly easy to manage in stop-start traffic.
Range, Battery & Charging
The Silverado EV WT’s trump card is its gigantic 173 kWh usable battery. This delivers an outstanding real-world range, estimated by Green Cars Compare at 648 km, with an efficiency of 3.75 km/kWh. When it’s time to plug in, it supports blistering DC fast charging up to 300 kW, adding significant range in minutes. For home charging, the standard 11.5 kW AC on-board charger is robust. If brought to Europe, it would use a CCS Type 2 port. Plus, its PowerBase system offers up to 10 outlets, turning the truck into a mobile power source.
Safety & Driver-Assistance Features
While the Silverado EV has not been tested by Euro NCAP, it comes equipped with a solid set of safety features as standard. Every WT model includes the Chevy Safety Assist suite, which bundles key technologies like Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, and Forward Collision Alert. It also gets Front Pedestrian Braking and automatic high beams. While more advanced hands-free driving systems like Super Cruise are reserved for the higher-end consumer trims, the WT provides the essential modern safety nets you’d expect for a confident drive.
Warranty & Maintenance Coverage
The Silverado EV is backed by GM’s comprehensive warranty. This typically includes a bumper-to-bumper limited warranty for 3 years or 58,000 km. More importantly, the electric powertrain and battery components are covered for an impressive 8 years or 160,000 km, which includes a guarantee against excessive capacity degradation. As an EV, routine maintenance is drastically reduced, with no oil changes or exhaust systems to worry about. The underlying Ultium platform is core to GM's entire EV strategy, indicating a strong focus on long-term reliability and performance across its new electric fleet.
