Overview
Kia's EV9 is a game-changing electric SUV, shaking up the premium three-row segment with its bold design and family-focused practicality. The Long Range RWD variant is the marathon runner of the lineup, prioritising maximum distance over outright pace. It’s the smart choice for buyers wanting to smash out long journeys with minimal fuss. Brand new, it's priced around €72,490 in Europe, with pre-owned examples appearing for about €64,999. It delivers a compelling package of space, tech, and futuristic styling that makes rivals look a bit old-school.
What's New for 2025?
For 2025, the EV9 Long Range RWD builds on its successful launch formula with subtle but meaningful refinements. The biggest updates are delivered via over-the-air (OTA) software updates, continuously improving the infotainment system, navigation, and vehicle performance characteristics without a trip to the dealer. While the core hardware remains unchanged, Kia has enhanced the Kia Connect Store, allowing owners to purchase and activate new digital features and services on the fly. This keeps the tech experience fresh and customisable throughout ownership, ensuring the EV9 stays at the cutting edge.
Design & Exterior
The EV9 looks like it rolled straight out of the future. Its "Digital Tiger Face" and striking vertical LED headlights give it an unmistakable and imposing road presence. The design is unapologetically boxy and futuristic, maximising interior space while looking incredibly cool. This Long Range RWD model features aerodynamically optimised wheels designed to slice through the air efficiently. Dimensionally, it's a big beast at 5010 mm long, 1980 mm wide, and 1755 mm tall, guaranteeing it will stand out in any car park.
Interior, Tech & Cargo
Step inside, and the EV9’s cabin feels like a minimalist, high-tech lounge. The dashboard is dominated by a stunning panoramic panel combining two 12.3-inch screens and a 5-inch climate display. With available six or seven-seat layouts and extensive use of sustainable materials, it’s both practical and eco-conscious. There's acres of room for passengers, while cargo space is seriously impressive. You get 333 litres in the boot, expanding to a van-like 2393 litres with seats folded. Plus, a handy 90-litre frunk under the bonnet provides extra storage.
Performance & Driving Experience
This Long Range RWD model is all about smooth, efficient progress rather than neck-snapping launches. Its single Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) sends 150 kW and 350 Nm of torque to the rear wheels, delivering a 0-100 km/h time of 9.4 seconds. It’s more than punchy enough for city driving and motorway overtakes. The ride quality is sublime, soaking up bumps effortlessly for a supremely comfortable journey. Smart regenerative braking, including an 'i-Pedal' mode for one-pedal driving, helps you claw back energy and drive more efficiently.
Range, Battery & Charging
The EV9 Long Range RWD is built for epic road trips. It packs a huge 96 kWh usable battery, delivering Green Cars Compare's calculated 'real-world' range estimate of 473 kilometres, with an excellent efficiency of 4.93 km/kWh. Thanks to its 800V architecture, charging is lightning-fast. Via its CCS Type 2 port, it can gulp down electricity at up to 210 kW from a DC fast charger, going from 10-80% in about 24 minutes. At home, the standard 10.5 kW AC onboard charger replenishes the battery overnight.
Safety & Driver-Assistance Features
Safety is paramount in the EV9, which proudly wears a 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating. It’s absolutely packed with advanced driver-assistance systems as standard. This includes Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA2), which provides sophisticated semi-autonomous support on motorways with lane-changing assistance. You also get Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with junction turning detection, and Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go. It's a comprehensive suite designed to protect you and your family, making every journey safer and more relaxed.
Warranty & Maintenance Coverage
Kia’s warranty is one of the best in the business, giving you fantastic peace of mind. The EV9 is covered by the company’s industry-leading 7-year or 150,000-kilometre new vehicle warranty across Europe. This comprehensive coverage also extends to the EV battery and powertrain components, guaranteeing the battery retains at least 70% of its original capacity. While complimentary maintenance isn't standard in Europe, the EV's reduced number of moving parts means scheduled servicing is simpler and generally more affordable than a traditional internal combustion engine car.
