Overview
The Tesla Model Y Performance is the ultimate all-rounder, blending family-friendly SUV practicality with mind-bending acceleration that shames supercars. As one of the world's best-selling EVs, it dominates the market with its combination of range, tech, and access to the superb Supercharger network. This top-tier trim offers dual-motor all-wheel drive and a thrilling driving experience. With a new price of €59,990 and used examples available from around €36,900, it represents a compelling, high-speed package for the electric era, though its reign in this form is coming to an end.
What's New for 2025?
The 2025 model year represents the final iteration of this wildly successful Model Y generation. While there are no major changes to this version, all eyes are on the imminent "Project Juniper" refresh, expected to launch soon. This heavily anticipated update is rumoured to bring a sharper exterior design inspired by the new Model 3, a revamped interior with premium materials and ambient lighting, and potential enhancements to battery efficiency and ride comfort. Buyers face a choice: grab this proven, potent performer now, or wait for the next evolution.
Design & Exterior
The Model Y’s smooth, pebble-like design is both clean and aerodynamic. The Performance trim gets a more aggressive look, hunkering down on lowered suspension and sporting massive 21-inch Überturbine wheels that fill the arches perfectly. Other tell-tale signs are the subtle carbon fibre spoiler on the boot lid and performance brakes with red callipers. It’s a purposeful stance for a practical car measuring 4751 mm in length, 1921 mm in width, and 1624 mm in height, giving it significant road presence without being overly bulky.
Interior, Tech & Cargo
Inside, the Model Y Performance embraces a minimalist philosophy, with a single, massive 15-inch landscape touchscreen controlling nearly every function. The cabin feels airy and spacious thanks to the standard panoramic glass roof. While it lacks Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, Tesla’s own infotainment is slick and intuitive. Practicality is off the charts; you get a cavernous 854-litre boot, which expands to 2041 litres with the seats folded flat. Plus, a useful 117-litre 'frunk' under the bonnet adds even more versatile storage space.
Performance & Driving Experience
Hold on tight! With dual motors providing all-wheel drive, the Performance unleashes 393 kW and 660 Nm of instant torque. This launches the family SUV from 0-100 km/h in a breathtaking 3.7 seconds, with a top speed of 250 km/h. Its powertrain combines an AC induction motor up front with a permanent magnet motor at the rear for optimal power and efficiency. The firm suspension and sharp steering deliver incredibly agile, go-kart-like handling, while the powerful regenerative braking allows for seamless one-pedal driving in most situations.
Range, Battery & Charging
The Performance trim is equipped with a 75 kWh usable battery pack. Green Cars Compare calculates a solid real-world range of approximately 450 km, with an excellent efficiency of around 6 km/kWh. For AC charging, the standard 11 kW on-board unit can fully recharge the battery overnight. When you need to juice up quickly, its 400V architecture and CCS Type 2 port can accept a blistering 250 kW DC charging speed, taking the battery from 10-80% in well under 30 minutes at a compatible Tesla Supercharger or public fast charger.
Safety & Driver-Assistance Features
Safety is a cornerstone for Tesla, and the Model Y achieves a top 5-star rating from Euro NCAP. Every car comes standard with Autopilot, which includes advanced adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist, making long motorway journeys a breeze. It's also packed with active safety systems like automatic emergency braking and blind-spot monitoring. For more advanced features, buyers can opt for Enhanced Autopilot (auto lane change, summon) or the Full Self-Driving Capability package, which adds traffic light and stop sign control.
Warranty & Maintenance Coverage
Tesla provides a robust warranty package for European owners. The basic vehicle is covered for 4 years or 80,000 km, whichever comes first. The all-important battery and drive unit are covered for an extended 8 years or 192,000 km, with a guarantee of retaining at least 70% of the original battery capacity. One of the biggest ownership perks is the minimal maintenance schedule; with no oil changes or engine services required, and with many updates delivered over-the-air, the running costs are kept remarkably low.
