Overview
The 2025 Volkswagen ID.4 Pro 4MOTION is VW’s all-electric family SUV for those who need all-weather confidence. It’s a compelling alternative to rivals like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Tesla Model Y, blending practicality, comfort, and user-friendly tech. The Pro 4MOTION trim adds a second motor for grippy all-wheel drive, making it a sure-footed choice for any journey. With new prices in the EU starting around €49,020 and used examples fetching approximately €36,870, it represents a solid package in the competitive electric SUV space.
What's New for 2025?
For 2025, the ID.4 continues with the fantastic tech upgrades recently introduced. The star of the show is the huge, slick new 12.9-inch infotainment screen, which is much faster and more intuitive than the old unit. Crucially, Volkswagen listened to feedback and the fussy touch sliders for volume and climate control are now backlit, so you can actually see them at night! The gear selector has also been smartly relocated to a stalk on the steering column, freeing up centre console space and making the cabin feel even more modern.
Design & Exterior
The ID.4 Pro 4MOTION boasts a smooth, friendly design that’s modern without being shouty. It looks clean and aerodynamic, with flowing lines and a distinctive full-width LED light bar at the front and rear. As a nicely proportioned SUV, it measures 4584 mm long, 1852 mm wide, and 1634 mm tall, giving it a solid presence on the road. This trim level adds subtle '4MOTION' badging, signalling its all-wheel-drive capability, while stylish alloy wheels complete the handsome, understated look that won't date quickly.
Interior, Tech & Cargo
Inside, the ID.4’s cabin is minimalist and airy, with plenty of space for five adults thanks to a long 2771 mm wheelbase and a completely flat floor in the back. The new 12.9-inch central touchscreen is a massive improvement, with sharp graphics and standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Material quality is good, creating a comfortable and quiet environment. For practicality, you get a massive 543-litre boot, which expands to a van-like 1575 litres with the rear seats folded down, though there’s no storage frunk under the bonnet.
Performance & Driving Experience
This is where the Pro 4MOTION really shines. With its dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup—an induction motor at the front and a permanent magnet motor at the rear—it feels properly quick and secure. The powertrain delivers a healthy 210 kW and a massive 679 Nm of torque, launching the car from 0-100 km/h in a swift 6.6 seconds on its way to a top speed of 180 km/h. The ride is comfortable and quiet, absorbing bumps with ease, while the instant torque and all-wheel grip provide bags of confidence when accelerating or cornering.
Range, Battery & Charging
The Pro 4MOTION is equipped with a 77 kWh usable battery pack. Based on independent analysis, Green Cars Compare calculates a real-world range of around 447 km, with an impressive efficiency of 5.81 km/kWh. For charging, its on-board 11 kW AC charger can top up the battery overnight in about 8 hours. When you’re on the move, it supports DC fast charging at up to 175 kW via its CCS Type 2 port, allowing you to zap the battery from 10-80% in under 30 minutes at a compatible station.
Safety & Driver-Assistance Features
Safety is a top priority in this family wagon, backed by a full 5-star rating from Euro NCAP. Volkswagen packs in plenty of standard driver-assistance tech to keep you secure. Every Pro 4MOTION comes with Front Assist with emergency braking, Lane Keeping Assist, and Adaptive Cruise Control to take the stress out of motorway driving. For even more advanced features, you can spec the optional IQ.DRIVE Travel Assist package, which provides more sophisticated semi-autonomous steering, acceleration, and braking support on compatible roads.
Warranty & Maintenance Coverage
Volkswagen provides solid peace of mind for ID.4 owners. In Europe, the vehicle is typically covered by a 2-year, unlimited-kilometre basic warranty. More importantly, the high-voltage battery is protected by a separate, comprehensive warranty for 8 years or 160,000 kilometres, whichever comes first, guaranteeing it will retain at least 70% of its original usable capacity. As a fully electric vehicle, maintenance is simpler and cheaper than a petrol car, with no oil changes needed, though optional service packages are available for routine inspections.
