2018 Smart Fortwo EQ Electric Cabriolet Review - The Ideal City Car

Uploaded 6 years ago by TheStraightPipes

Video Summary

- The turning radius is incredible, lane-to-lane U-turns are possible.
- Mercedes owns Smart.
- It is a cabriolet and a targa.
- A fully charged battery offers 93 km (57 miles) of range.
- It produces 118 lb-ft of torque and 80 horsepower.
- When plugged in, it says more range, though the official rating is 93km.
- Strictly a city car.
- For driving less than 6 km a day in the city, this thing is wonderful to drive with no top.
- It has a good roof design. A button folds the top back to a targa position. Then, the press folds it down. The side panels can be removed and stored in the trunk.
- With the windows up, it is a pretty nice drive.
- With the windows down, there is so much road noise and debris being blasted, it is annoying.
- The range sucks, but is appropriate for the size of the vehicle and for city driving.
- Level 2 charging is 2.5 hours, which is appropriate for the range. There is no Level 3 charging. Level 1 charging takes 13 hours.
- The small battery keeps it light, but it does not result in a lot of range. The range compared to battery size is decent.
- The Infotainment for Smart is awful. The graphics look like a 2007 web plug-in. It's like a children's tablet. It is easy to get through everything.
- The volume nob has lag.
- There is no satellite radio. The USB port does work.
- It does not have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Battery gauges in the middle are pretty easy to go through.
- The one-pedal driving isn't really one-pedal. No brake lights come on. It just slows you down a little bit and charges the battery.
- Can't turn off traction control.
- It has a Tridion safety cell.
- Lots of room.
