Video Summary

The Ford Tourneo Custom is a new medium-sized van designed to carry up to nine people, with Ford aiming to diversify its customer base by slightly increasing the luxury feel. Initial engine options are familiar 136, 150, and 170 horsepower 2.0-liter diesel units carried over from the outgoing version, which deliver relatively low fuel economy figures under 38 mpg. More exciting options are coming, including a fully electric E-Tourneo Custom arriving in summer 2024 with a 64 kWh battery and 160 kW motor offering a promised electric range of 202 miles. A plug-in hybrid model will be available from spring 2024, featuring a 2.5-liter petrol engine and an 11.8 kWh battery for a 32-mile electric range and a claimed 157 mpg, dependent on driving and charging habits.

Compared to its predecessor, the new Tourneo Custom feels more car-like and less intimidating to drive, particularly in urban areas thanks to lighter steering. This slight trade-off means it's slightly less rewarding to drive and requires a bit more attention on the motorway, though supported by safety systems. The interior is notably more luxurious, featuring a flat floor and highly flexible seating for six full-size adults in the rear, which can slide forward and backward on rails to prioritize legroom or boot space, and can be configured to face each other. Moving these seats is easier as they are lighter than before. Technology highlights include a standard 13.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an 8.0-inch digital driver display, wireless phone charging, ambient interior lighting, and an optional 14-speaker B&O sound system. There are few other vehicles capable of comfortably carrying nine people with good legroom for everyone.
