2025 Porsche Macan 4 Review | Porsche’s cash cow goes electric

Video Summary

The Macan is no longer Porsche's most affordable model. There's an entry-level, rear-drive Macan at about $128,000, but the Macan 4 gets two electric motors and all-wheel drive; that starts around $133,000. Porsche will let you add a wide range of options; this review car had over $38,000 in options. Its list price as tested comes to $171,260, or nearly $200,000 drive away.

The warranty is three years and unlimited kilometers, which is low compared to many other brands. The battery is covered for 8 years/160,000 kilometers.

The Macan has two charge sockets, one for low-power charging and another for high-power charging. With a 100 kWh battery, topping off the battery from 10% to 80% takes just 21 minutes on a 120 kW DC fast charger. A full recharge with 11 kW of home charging power takes about 10 hours. There are very long service intervals, 24 months or 30,000 km between visits.

With two electric motors, there is a combined power output of 285 kW and 650 Nm. Zero to 100 km/h is 5.2 seconds. The car has a claimed consumption of 17.0 kWh/100km.

The key difference is an 800V system allowing lots of performance and fast charging. The car drives and smells like a Porsche. The driver's instrument cluster is fully digital and has traditional gauges.

The car has Provence paint color, silver roof rails, silver trim, body-colored trims, silver badging, and Matrix LED headlights. Wheel centers are in Porsche colors. A panoramic sunroof is another option. The tested set of 22 inch wheels are each almost $8,000.

The Macan 4 has augmented reality heads-up display for $4,000, a leather interior for $3,300, a heated multi-function GT sports steering wheel, embossed Porsche crests on the headrest, sport chrono package, advanced four-zone climate control, and a Bose surround sound system. All told, the Macan review unit contains approximately $38,000 worth of gear options, making the car's asking price approach $200,000 fully loaded.

The driving dynamics make you quickly forget it's a midsized SUV. The leather in the cabin is high quality and everything you touch is very high end.

It doesn't come with a spare tire or inflator kit, but rather depends on roadside assistance in case of a flat. At long distances there's a very coarse sound of the road you can hear coming through in the cabin.

Overall, if the high budget is not a deal breaker the Porsche Macan 4 Electric may be well worth the consideration for people looking to get one of the best electric cars on the market.
