Video Summary

The ID. Buzz is back in the North American market after a 20-year hiatus, but now it is all-electric.

The ID. Buzz retains similar styling cues to the original, such as the boxy look, short overhangs, a long wheelbase, and a large VW badge in the front.

Two-tone paint options and D-pillar trims resembling air vents are available. The long-wheelbase, three-row version will be sold in the US. The ID. Buzz attracts a lot of attention.

The ID. Buzz comes as either a single motor rear-wheel-drive or a dual-motor four-motion all-wheel-drive. The dual-motor version goes from 0 to 60 mph in 6 seconds. The rear-wheel-drive Pro S model was tested.

The brakes feel fine but are squishy on top of the pedal, and there’s no one-pedal drive mode. B mode offers stronger regenerative braking.

Built on the Volkswagen MEB platform, the ID. Buzz comprises a low-mounted 91-kilowatt-hour battery pack, which saves interior space and gives this bus a low center of gravity.

Single-motor models have 234 miles of range, while dual-motor models have 231 miles of range. The ID. Buzz can charge up to 200 kW on a DC fast charger and get a 10-80% charge in 26 minutes.

The ride in the ID. Buzz feels good; the suspension soaks up a lot of bumps, and the steering feels nice and precise, albeit a little light.

There are drive modes for those wanting more power on demand.

The size is larger in person, and the size is massive inside, though the interior is generally good with soft-touch points and cool-looking materials. However, the infotainment screen can be cluttered. Some key features include USB ports on the inside of the door and a sliding window.

The third-row seats can be removed for extra space, and loading cargo isn't a problem. The 2nd and 3rd rows fold flat and with the Flexboard, there’s a flat load floor. The car is lacking a frunk.

Some negatives include the higher beltline on the second and third rows. Also, the direct back window doesn't offer a lot of real estate.

The Pro S model has a seven-seat configuration and comes in rear-wheel drive for $61,545, including destination. The Pro S Plus is $65,045, and the first-edition model is $67,045. The dual-motor AWD system is a $4,500 upgrade, offered on Pro S Plus and 1st Edition models. IQ. Drive Safety Suite has key standard safety features.
