2025 XPeng G6 Standard Range Review | Another Chinese EV arrives to try and bother Tesla

Video Summary

The Xpeng G6 standard range costs approximately $55,000. The G6 is more affordable than the equivalent Tesla Model Y. Standard and long-range models share specifications. Xpeng offers a five-year warranty limited to 120,000 kilometers, but the battery gets an eight-year warranty up to 180,000 kilometers. Customers can extend the warranty to ten years. Servicing is done nationally through the Ultra Tune service center network.

The G6 blends in well and has 20-inch wheels. There are 12 cameras inside and out. Keyless entry is absent. It has electric door handles without a manual override, this is a disadvantage. The standard range has 190 kilowatts, 440 Newton meters of torque, and rear wheel drive.

All the air conditioning and part of the battery cooling system live under the hood. The standard range battery is lithium iron phosphate with 66-kilowatt hours and charging times are fast thanks to its 800-volt electrical system. It takes 20 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%. Xpeng claims 435 kilometers of range. Material quality inside is high. The steering wheel switches are unmarked and there is a complete lack of buttons, which can be odd and is a Tesla-esque feature.

Storage is great and wireless charging for phones are available. The panoramic sunroof is included in the price, and is very dark tinted. A high level of driving assistance, such as speed-sign recognition and automatic emergency braking, are present. Performance is very respectable. Acceleration is 0 to 100 in 6.6. seconds. Fuel efficiency is an estimated 17.5 kilowatt hours per 100 kilometers.

The ride is stiff. While it's equipped with lots of technology, it feels much like early Tesla models. The reviewer found the VR assist overhyped. Rear visibility is not so good, thanks to the shorter rear window, sloping roofline and larger C and D pillars. This car has a technological, almost "virtual reality" feel. What the reviewer loves is the sheer normality, however. This is an EV that is simply trying to be a car, which may be enough for many potential buyers.
