Video Summary
The BMW iX is a mid-size SUV, priced from around $75,150, but the reviewed model costs over $96,000. Even with such a price, it does not have a third row.
Competitors with a third row include the Tesla Model X, the Mercedes EQS, and the Rivian R1S. The Tesla Model Y has a 327-mile range, goes from 0 to 60 in 4.6 seconds, and is priced around $50,000.
The reviewer likes the look of the iX including the self-healing kidney grill and lights. The 2026 iX model has minor updates that make it look cooler.
The entry height is low, and the car is said to have carbon fiber trim, not found in a Tesla. The iX is 87.8 inches wide and 195 inches long.
The Model Y is 83.8 inches wide and 187 inches long. People seem to get more miles from the iX than the EPA estimates.
Highway range is much higher than EPA. Usually 10-15% more. EPA is 309 miles and Consumer Reports says the highway range is 370 miles which is 61 more. The car reviewed has an estimated range after driving it for a while of 367 miles at 100% charge.
One one test, the Model Y was “super bumpy” but smoother ride quality in new models.
The iX has seven drive modes that each are unique and the ride experience on long drives is better than Model Y. There is the option of “efficient” which offers a more comfortable ride and “max range” which adjusts climate control.
There is now a iX 60 model that gets 364 miles and sells for $88,000. After adding an air suspension, the reviewer preferred the iX over the Model Y.
But it also comes down to value. Tesla offers auto pilot which the iX does not. The Model Y is almost half the cost. The iX feels more solid and has better handing. The Model Y has far more chargers easily and reliably accessible.
There are 25,000 Tesla superchargers in North America. All new BMW models are switching to the Tesla charge port. The reviewer was unable to charge his car at multiple stations. If you are doing cross country, The Model Y is far better. You could be hogging to spaces if you go into supercharging because of having the charging port on the right and the Tesla ports are on the left. The test also noted is that Tesla is the only company making an automatic port that doesn’t break so often.
In terms of looks and feeling, if you want to have a nicer SUV than you might want to get it. Just so people knows that you have the extra money.
Inside the BMW feels “premium luxury." The curved display, the gold accents, crystal center ball and smooth textiles. “A touch of elegance." Simple, smooth, but some find it almost too simple for the price point. There’s not a lot of hard plastic.
The seats in the BMW iX feels great. As a side by side. The BMW is more planted. Better handling and doesn’t feel like a big SUV, but in the Model Y there were more features. If I upgrage in this package.
The digital Art mode lets you change the RGB lighting.
The BMW is better on the front with not as much space.
There is backup assist, which is knows previous path and is able to retrace to help you to get out. There is start and can automatically pre condition to the battery. The screen shows photos of the stalls. Is the BMW worth the extra $30k to get that BMW logo badge?
It has way more EPA rating especially for an electric vehicle. It drives great with an amazing control, acceleration and de acceleration. Many say it’s more planted and feels more like a sports car. Better handling. It also doesn’t feel like a big SUV.
However, in some areas like the charger locations, it’s still not the most reliable.
