DS8 driving REVIEW - by far the best modern French car?

Uploaded 1 month ago by Autogefühl

Video Summary

The DS8 is a flagship car aimed at competing with German premium brands and Chinese EV manufacturers. Matrix LED headlights are optional; the daytime running light is vertical, also serving as a turning indicator. Different trim levels are available, including "Étoile," French for "star." Two-tone paint options are also available. The car has a length of 4.82 meters (190 inches). The side profile has a sedan look with a higher crossover feel and a fastback trunk. Rear doors attach at the rear in an unusual design. It has 19- to 21-inch wheels. If the biggest wheels are chosen, they are forged and lighter. The car is usually front-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive is optional, with up to 350 horsepower and an acceleration of 5.44 seconds with all-wheel drive, while front-wheel drive does it in eight.

The charging flap is manual and large, but covers the charging port from rain. AC charging is at 11 or 22 kW, and DC charging is at a 160 kW peak. The car can charge from 20 to 80% in under 30 minutes. The 74 kWh, small-battery and 97 kWh big-battery sizes mean about 500 km range under ideal conditions, while 750km is the official range number.

There is no front trunk, though there looks like a place for it. A heat pump is standard.

The car is very quiet. Though comfortable, you feel potholes due to 21-inch wheels.  The design of the door handles is modern and integrates with the car body.

The review had high regard for the high-quality materials. One notable feature of the Interior is an animal-free approach, meaning that it does not use leather. It also features a Cat Paw massage, which provides nice feeling for the driver. However, some controls in the infotainment system can be slow and unresponsive.

The reviewer recommends buying a model with adaptive suspension and smaller wheels for a smoother ride.

One-pedal driving can be enabled via a button. The digital instrument display allows customization but can cause eye strain. Apple Carplay works with Apple Maps to display route info on the heads-up display.

At high speeds the car is quiet and stable, which is also helped by side blind spot monitoring.

It is being built in Italy and the price point is important to note. The review car starts at 60000 EUR with higher configurations at more than 80000 EUR which is above what other cars from France charge for.
