The Transit Custom exists in two forms: sliding doors or front-only access with five trims; this one is the Sport. Two or three seats are available in the front; right behind, two or three seats can also be chosen, called multicab. Space is separated by a partition, and there’s cargo room. Dimensions are 5.45 meters in length, 1.97 meters in height, and 2.27 meters wide sans mirrors. It's available in diesel, plug-in hybrid, and all-electric. The diesel engine is a 2-liter with 110, 136, or 150 hp in a manual transmission. Automatic is also available with more powerful motors. The plug-in hybrid has a 232 hp engine and a 11.8 kWh battery; there's an announced 57-kilometer range, with 33 km found in the test. A home charge requires overnight, and the Diesel can tow 2.8 tons, while PHEV and EV can tow 2 tons.
The design features an adhesive racing stripe and a very wide grill. The lower has a practical sensors. Headlights are LED. There’s a band adhesive on the bottom. It features 17-inch rims, large side mirrors divided into two parts, with a lower camera for the 360 system, foldable heated mirrors, and soft-close sliding doors. Rear windows are tinted, and the vehicle exists in two lengths. Rear features a body kit, a spoiler, and vertical lights. Towing possible and backup camera included.
The front contains racing stripes, the grill, and sensors. Standard features include cruise control, a multifunction steering wheel with controls, air-conditioning and windows, and a 12” info screen. The driver seat is heated, as is the wheel, which is convenient. The layout’s utility prioritizes robustness over luxury. Lots of in-cabin storage. There are 2 USB-C ports to charge devices.
Adaptive cruise control was non-functional in the test; the reviewer suspects ice.
When reversing, a wide backup camera gives views in front. There's a driver fatigue alert. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available. Driving solo and with an empty cargo area is comfortable but the engine noise is more noticeable than that in a passenger vehicle. Suspension works very well.
In sum, the van’s two-year guarantee and availability with Diesel or Hybrid powertrain make it suitable for business owners.
