The Smart #5 is the largest model Smart has ever produced. While its style is debatable, its technology is noteworthy. It features a new interior interface, an extra screen, and 800-volt charging. Style evokes adventure, and can be found in an attractive launch edition color. This all-electric SUV has retractable door handles, attributes for robustness, and distinctive plastic elements.
Regarding its technical aspects, there are currently six versions available, with three rear-wheel-drive propulsion models that place the electric motor on the rear axle. More advanced models will feature an additional motor on the front axle. All models will use permanent-magnet synchronous motors. The #5 weighs between 2200 and 2370 kg, depending on the specification. Towing capacity is 1600 kg for braked trailers and 750 kg for unbraked trailers. The battery is located under the floor between the four wheels. The base versions are equipped with an LFP battery, whereas the rest of the line uses NMC batteries with 100 kWh capacity. The models equipped with the largest batteries can achieve 590km of range.

The dashboard features a double screen and is well-designed and assembled. Although good quality materials have been selected, ergonomics need improvement. For example, the volume control and settings are all located on the center screen.
While there are numerous driver assistance systems, some were too sensitive, and needed to be switched off in the infotainment menus after each start. Overall, the vehicle offers a good driving experience and a pleasant ride. The S pedal one-pedal driving system has a delayed reaction time and lacks direct feeling; still, the vehicle has a very decent braking performance.
The tested Summit Edition with most options has a sticker price of 57,700 EUR.
