Video Summary

The gear selector has been moved to the steering column, saving space. The car tested has the smaller 48.4 kilowatt-hour battery, and a range of about 234 miles. The smaller battery version has 154 brake horsepower, while the long-range version has 214.

Full one-pedal driving can be achieved and brings the car to a complete stop. It can be switched on using the paddles behind the steering wheel. The smaller battery takes 41 minutes to charge from 10 to 80%, which isn’t particularly quick. The charger is a 102.3 kilowatt charger. However, the car offers consistent charging, not up and down depending on peak levels.

All trim levels include downhill brake control, driver attention warning, forward collision avoidance assist with car, pedestrian, cycle, and junction turning functions, hill start assist control, intelligent speed limit assist, lane keep assist, lane follow assist, and leading vehicle departure alert. The new Kona was designed as an electric car first and foremost.

Both versions are quiet, refined, and the test vehicle soaks up bumps well, with light steering. The Korean brands are listening to their customers and taking their needs into account. The redesigned Kona is a good size, and Hyundai is hitting a high point with its latest electric vehicles. This Kona, especially, feels like a family SUV run-around kind of car.
