FIRST DRIVE: Audi A6 Avant e-tron: the perfect family EV for SUV-haters?

Video Summary

The Audi A6 Avant e-tron is Audi’s first all-electric estate car. It shares underpinnings with the Q6 SUV and the new Porsche Macan. Its overall design, from the lovely LED headlights to the blocked-off front grill and air intakes, is rated at 8.5 out of 10.
The 21-inch alloys are particularly sharp. It has a classic Audi estate profile. The design is suitable for buyers who don't want another SUV.
There are traditional Audi design cues around back, notably the light bar, and includes a rear windscreen wiper. However, the reviewer finds the glowing logo, on certain colors, gets lost. The placement of the charging flap under the window looks less than ideal.

In the interior, the curved display dominates the dash, with great graphics and an intuitive layout. Customization allows only desired information to be shown. It has an optional third screen for the front passenger. Materials such as Alcantara give a luxurious feel to doors and rails. This luxury doesn't extend to the piano black, however, which feels common. Virtual wing mirrors have a crab-like appearance, and viewing through them is not perfect, leading to negative driver reactions.

Decent rear seat space, a light panoramic roof, and Alcantara leather seats add to interior comfort. The lack of a flat floor in the rear is a downside. The boot offers 502 liters with rear seats in position, and 1400 with them folded.
Charging is rapid. There is a 75.8 kWh pack with a claimed WLTP range of 361 miles and a 94.9 kWh unit for a 437-mile range. Quick charging takes just 20-30 minutes. There are balanced, dynamic, comfort, and efficiency driving modes. The efficiency plus mode cranks down the temperature and limits power. Battery preconditioning can get batteries ready for high-power charging. It achieves 0-62 mph acceleration in 5.4 seconds, with a 564 Nm torque output. The suspension feels planted but is firmer and crashier than the reviewer would like.

Vehicle to Load or Vehicle to Grid are not offered, and the most affordable A6 e-tron Avant starts at 65,000 pounds (72,500$ USD).
