FIRST DRIVE: Hyundai RN24 – An Ioniq 5 N on Steroids!

Uploaded 8 months ago by Top Gear

Video Summary

Hyundai's RN24 rolling lab pairs Ionic 5 N's twin motors with a WRC-style chassis.

The RN24 focuses on lightweighting, shrinking the footprint of future N models, and features a rally-inspired e-handbrake.

The E-handbrake lever sends a signal to the e-motor to lock the rear axle.

The approach doesn't involve more straight-line performance.

This rolling laboratory is meant to show case future technologies.

The RN22e featured the virtual dual clutch, now in the Ionic 5 N.

Many doubted e-shift tech, and one by one they've become believers.

e-Shift gear box is more responsive than plenty of real paddle shift systems.

Artificial sounds are better than plenty of digitally enhanced ice cars.

Many modes are on the wheel, power shifts from one to five, number 5, giving the max power.

Light up lights that will give you a ten second boost so that when throttle is on, it counts down to that power.

Driving modes can be changed from Snow at 50% on and off then up to gravel.

Snow is pretty much locked in, 50/50 ft. to rear.

The steering is lovely. The sense of agility is almost like rear-wheel steering, this short wheelbase gives.

It weighs 1880 kg.

It has 650 BHP power, 84 kWh battery and all wheel drive.

It also has electronic limited slip differentials in the rear and mechanical in the front.

0-62MPH: 3.4 seconds with a top speed of 149MPH.

There is some really cool detail like the Metro 6R4, that's what it looks like with no body work.

They manage to repackage with the same battery pack.

Its E hand brake felt weird and loose since there isn't any real mechanical link.

The environment is nuts, but there's nothing.

This EV is a work in progress, but things are looking up.
