Video Summary

The Lexus RZ 450e is the first dedicated electric vehicle from Lexus, aiming for an all-electric lineup by 2035. It's built on Toyota’s e-TNGA architecture, shared with the Toyota bZ4X.

The RZ 450e has a dual-motor setup, producing 230kW and 435Nm with all-wheel drive capability. Its 71.4kWh lithium-ion battery provides a range of up to 450km.

Styling-wise, it closely resembles the RX SUV, but features a unique two-tone paint option. The spindle grille is replaced with what Lexus calls the "spindle body."

The interior features typical Lexus luxury with a driver-centric design called Tazuna, tilting the touchscreen towards the driver. It’s also the first Lexus with a gear dial selector.

The yoke steering wheel is an optional feature with steer-by-wire, offering less than one turn lock-to-lock. It provides a clearer view of the instrument panel, and is less sharp on faster corners.

The battery is placed low between the axles to improve handling. The Direct4 powertrain can operate as front, rear, or all-wheel drive, and is more front-biased when cruising, more rear-biased when cornering.

Lexus estimates its 0-100km/h time at 5.6 seconds and it’s a quiet ride, typical of the brand. It is nimbler at low speeds and has a price around $100,000.

However, in normal mode the steering is quite rolly and understeery in higher corners.

The RZ 450e is more compelling than the UX300e, but faces tough competition from Tesla and the Hyundai Group.
