The Mazda probably makes more sense as a second car. The car feels really well-built, despite recycled plastic bottles on the door and cork on the center console.
This car's biggest criticism is its 124-mile range, which is about 20 miles short of the Mini Electric, and about half as far as the Renault Zoe. A home wall box will charge in six hours, and a 50-kW rapid charger will take batteries to 80% capacity in 36 minutes.
Driving this car is similar to driving the MX-5 roadster.
The Mazda is more comfortable than the Mini Electric. It is very quiet and refined, and drives well and easy, though it is not quite as fast as expected. There's a sound generator that imitates a tuned petrol engine. The Mazda takes corners well, has engaging turns, and is pretty good to drive. The limited power output is compensated by the ability to drive it almost flat out, much like the MX-5. If the MX-30 fits one's lifestyle, it is easy to recommend.
