Video Summary

Findings about the MG5 Electric Car:

The car is based on the MG4 but looks quite different. It serves as a replacement for the ZS EV and is similarly priced. A base model starts at about 28,500 pounds. The model shown in the video is the long range trophy model, coming in at around 34,000 pounds. The front of the car has a distinctive 'snatched angry face' with sleek daytime running lights and grill. Aerodynamics have been improved with a smooth bonnet and large air curtains.

The alloy wheels range from 17 to 18 inches; SE models are equipped with 17 inch gloss black wheels and budget Kumho tires. Trophy models have 18-inch rotor-style alloy wheels with Bridgestone tires, which the reviewer finds to be a great touch.

Color options include cosmic silver, Piccadilly blue, Camden gray, and Black Pearl, but a ‘Healing Rice’ color only available in other regions is more appealing.

The car is about 4.5 meters long and sits in the mid-sized SUV market, competing with Renault Scenic, Skoda Enyaq, Ford Explorer, etc. Rear visibility is good thanks to the LED tail light bar. Side door mirrors look sleek, contributing to the car's improved aerodynamics and lower wind noise.

The car is rear wheel drive. The long range model is rated for 0-62 in 6.3 seconds, with 350 Nm of torque. There are 2 trim levels.

Fast charging reaches up to 139 kW. A 10-80% charge is 24 minutes on a standard range model, and 28 minutes for the long-range version. Home charging goes up to 6.6 kW.

It is great to have all of MG's safety pilot features customisable. Not a massive fan of the overspeed alert, which cannot be turned off. Driving performance is great, particularly grip; wheelspin isn't occurring.

The test found more practical in the boot is 453 litres that are comparable to a Nissan Qashqai. To get to the main loading bay, the loading floor lifts to reveal a tool store.

Inside, the interior looks modern and well-made. Not fond of the faux carbon-fiber effect. Seat leather and materials are high quality; however, they do not give as much support. The steering wheel is similar to an Audi's. There is a 12.8-inch center touchscreen but it is tilted slightly away from the driver. This includes YouTube and TikTok. There are limited physical climate control switches. Good to find I-smart set up very easily with QR code, a very user-friendly app

The SE model has cloth seats. The steering wheel and seats are heated in the Trophy trim.
There's plenty of knee-room in the back with a flat floor, though the middle seat's quite firm. No seat slide adjustment for the rear. i-Fix child seat anchors are easy to access too.
Overall this MG looks increasingly high spec, and looks better than a ZS.

MG S5 looks more premium and now has its own distinct identity.
