Video Summary

The Hyundai Kona Electric is a practical, small family SUV with loads of space.

Its entry level car starts from about $27,000, which can be picked up online for around $450 a month.

It has a driving range of 300 miles, and the car’s generic crossover shape is inoffensive.

The Smurfy Blue Metallic paint finish is complimented by an illuminated front logo to indicate when it’s not safe to touch high voltage cables.

It features slim DRLs and chunky lower main beams at the front, with separate brake lights and reverse indicator lights at the rear.

The trunk opens manually and contains about 332 liters. There isn't a lot of underfloor storage, so the charging cable is kept in a bag, which eats up room. The flat load area has folding rear seats.

The rear space is okay and features lots of head room, though foot space is an issue. There are no rear USB ports or ventilation, but there is a fold-down arm rest with cup holders.

The material quality of the interior is okay. There is scratchy plastic, but some of the textures feel quite premium.

The central console’s gray plastic doesn’t look amazing.

It has a digital driver display that shows tire pressure and power consumption. The big infotainment screen and physical shortcut buttons are simple to use, and there are big twiddly knobs for adjusting volume. The optional Apple CarPlay and Android Auto tech are decent.

It drives well and features sharp steering and good brakes that are controlled via paddles behind the steering wheel. The paddles also increase or decrease the amount of regen.

The 64kwh battery motor version contains a 204 horsepower engine that goes from 0-62 in 7.9 seconds, and has 395 nm of torque.

There are two battery options - a 39kwh will get 200 miles of range, while a 64kwh will get 300, using the WLTP.

Recharging up to 77 kilowatts, the car goes from 10% to 80% in 46 minutes.

The front charge port's positioning is useful, although it ruins the lines.

It can achieve six miles per kwh, which costs about $5.62 to fill, giving it around 400 miles of range.

Because it offers great range, practicality, and affordability, this Hyundai is a buy.
