NEW Kia EV6 review – better than ever? | What Car?

Video Summary

The Kia EV6 has received a facelift with subtle styling changes, aligning it with the brand's other EVs.

New headlights with adaptive LED lights are standard on GT-Line and GT-Line S models, with a light bar on the front for these models.

The lower front end is a bit bigger than before, and at the rear, the gloss black panel has sharper edges for a slightly sportier look.

The dimensions remain the same, so its styling doesn't squarely fit it into a single category; electric SUV is the closest comparison.

Competitors include the Skoda Enyaq, Tesla Model Y, and Hyundai Ioniq 5.

The battery has been upgraded to 84 kWh and is lighter, increasing the official range of the rear-wheel-drive version from 328 miles to 361 miles.

The official range for the all-wheel-drive version has improved from 300 miles to 324 miles.

A key rival is the Renault Scenic, which offers a longer official range.

The EV6 maintains impressive charging speeds, which are even faster than before. The maximum charging rate has gone up to 258 kW, enabling a 10% to 80% charge in only 18 minutes.

Charging speeds of 50 to 100 kW are more common, resulting in a 10 to 80% charge in around 70 minutes.

The infotainment system has been updated to resemble the Kia EV9, and it looks crisp and responsive with a relatively simple layout.

Climate controls are located on a touch-sensitive panel with physical dials.

Over-the-air updates for control systems, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, are now included.

A digital smart key is available, which turns your smartphone into the key.

New interior materials and the loss of glossy black plastics improve the overall quality.

The rear seats offer limousine-like legroom and can recline.

The 490-liter boot is a useful square shape, is able to fit seven carry-on suitcases and now allows the storage of the parcel shelf.

The front boot of all-wheel-drive models is relatively small.

The new Kia EV6 drives in a very similar way to the previous car. It is decent to drive with well-weighted steering and decent body control, and with a ride that is on the firm side, but still comfortable, and this makes it more sporty.

If you select a version with lane assist it will make a sound which, whilst annoying, can be turned off.

It has a 7-year warranty as standard.

It is priced similarly to its competitors but the others are available with lesser battery power.

Overall, the new EV6, while not a dramatic redesign, is a definite improvement over the previous model.
