The Skoda Enyaq feels like the electric car lots of people have been waiting for. It is a big SUV with lots of room, a massive range and a competitive price from a popular mainstream manufacturer.For the e-Niro two versions qualify for £2500 off thanks to the UK government plug-in grant: a 39 kWh version and an entry level trim with the bigger 64 kWh version.
The Enyaq is Skoda's first dedicated modern electric car, and it is bigger overall than the e-Niro. It is very similar and closely related to the VW ID4 and the Audi Q4 e-tron.
There are two batteries to choose from in the Enyaq - a 60 version, which is eligible for the UK government plug-in grant, and an 80 version, which is more expensive and doesn't qualify for the grant but gets you a longer range.
The 60 is very competitively priced, even against the e-Niro, and smaller than the Enyaq.
The e-Niro interior isn't bad. It is OK but there are harder plastics.
The storage is pretty good. Wireless phone charging is at the bottom of the dashboard. A big digital driver display is bigger than the Enyaq's. The entertainment system has a 10.25 inch screen unless you go for entry level 2 trim, which gets a smaller 8-inch screen. It has helpful shortcut buttons too.
The Enyaq gets a bigger 13 inch touch screen no matter what trim.
The Skoda Enyaq's software can be a bit laggy and not very snappy.
Having climate controls within a touch screen loses out to having physical controls.
