The second-generation Porsche Taycan, known as J1.2, has sold nearly 150,000 units since its launch. It's available as a wagon or sedan in various trim levels, including a base rear-wheel drive, Turbo, Turbo S, 4S, and 4, as well as the new Turbo GT. The Turbo GT starts at $230,000 and is highly customizable. It makes over 1,000 horsepower in regular mode, and under 1,100 horsepower in Track Attack mode. Range has been improved, with some trims exceeding 300 miles.
This generation of the Taycan has improved on the previous model by now offering air ride on the base model. All models offer adaptive air suspension with PASM and two-chamber air suspension with a two-valve damper. The rebound and compression damping can be adjusted independently. Now you can no longer get 48-volt sway bars because Porsche is using the 400-volt system. New for 2024 is the active suspension on the turbo models. The new optional Porsche Active Ride removes sway bars and the active system uses individual pumps at each wheel. The suspension responds to road and driving conditions, and adjusts quickly (less than 50 ms) to reduce body movement such as pitch and dive. It achieves a 7:07.55 Nürburgring lap time and is the fastest electric car from Zuffenhausen.
The systems communicating with each other and the ECU are set for maximum performance for specific conditions on the track but with all the driving aids in, so people can drive safely.
A key difference between the Taycan and the Lucid Air Sapphire is that the Taycan uses a mechanical clutch pack, resulting in a more traditional Porsche feel. The Sapphire uses electric motors.
When the active shocks are combined with torque vectoring by brake and an optional mechanical differential, the systems work well together, finding the best sweet spot in every driving situation. Rear-wheel steering assists for better turn-in.
The Taycan Turbo GT is 157 lbs lighter than the Turbo S, and the more agile GT version is more stable, especially in high-speed corners. Compared to previous generations, the new Taycan makes big gains in all chassis characteristic dimensions. Downforce for the vehicle is 80 kg (front) and 140 kg (rear).
