Renault Mégane e-Tech électrique : notre essai complet

Video Summary

The new Renault Megane E-Tech Electric is a 100% electric vehicle with two power options: 130hp and 220hp, with the latter offering a larger battery and greater range. It's built on the new CMF-EV platform of the Renault-Nissan alliance, featuring an ultra-thin battery (11cm), contributing to a lower center of gravity and lower height (under 1.50m). This gives it a normal car appearance rather than a large SUV.

The design is distinct from the thermal Megane, with a compact SUV style, large 20-inch wheels, and short overhangs. Design cues from the Morphoz concept car are visible in the lighting signature and rounded shapes. Noteworthy design elements include sculpted flanks and a sleek rear window.

Driving is enjoyable, with a good mix of efficiency, performance, and comfort. The sport mode is particularly effective. While the ride is a bit firm, likely due to the large wheels, it doesn't compromise overall comfort. The interior is remarkably quiet, thanks to a new soundproofing foam between the floor and the battery, and enhanced door sealing.

The new motor is a synchronous motor with a wound rotor, contributing to better efficiency and eliminating the need for rare earth elements.

Real-world driving resulted in a consumption of 17.2 kWh/100 km, giving a theoretical range of around 350 km, which is considered somewhat limited for families taking long trips.

The interior is spacious, allowing three people in the back for short journeys, aided by the absence of a transmission tunnel. The front cabin is well-finished with quality and some recycled materials. The large 24-inch digital interface, powered by Google, is modern, intuitive, and comprehensive.

The price for the intermediate Techno trim with the larger battery and 220hp motor is €43,200 before ecological bonuses (€6,000 at the time of the review). The entry-level starts at €35,200 with the 130hp motor and smaller battery. While a good car, the range and price point may limit its appeal as a single car for a family.
