Video Summary
The Renault Scenic E-Tech is technically related to the Renault Megane. This car is based on the Ampere Medium platform, a Renault Nissan Mitsubishi alliance. It is an electric car. While styled as a family car, it is not definitively a compact, SUV, or van, landing somewhere in between. It’s 1.86 meters wide and 4.47 meters long, a bit smaller than the compact SUV class.
The car is front-wheel drive and comes in two battery configurations. The base model has a 60 kWh battery with a 125 kW electric motor. This test car, the higher variant, has an 87 kWh battery and 160 kW (218 PS) electric motor. Esprit Alpine is the dynamically styled trim line.
It has very good ride comfort even with the large wheels; the chassis is clean. There’s a slight whirring sound that may be heard from the motor when decelerating using regenerative braking.
At a fast charger, the car reaches 150kW, then dips after 35% and is under 100 kW thereafter. The city AC charging is 22 kW.
The interior boasts blue décor from Esprit Alpine, as well as a blue felt in the door pockets. Isofix is found at all three rear seats. As for rear space, there’s enough room, but the seating can be restricted with the steeply angled legs for larger individuals. The foldable armrest has practical cup holders, and offers the chance to rest a tablet in the same area. Solar bay glazing covers the car, but does not open; however, it does shade adequately. It offers decent knee-room.
Google infotainment is on board, offering navigation with real-time traffic. Google Play also delivers extra app. My Safety Perso allows configuration and customization of driving assistants. The test version had a Harman Kardon soundsystem.
The WLTP range is around 598 km, although real-world numbers are around 480 km. On Autobahn runs, this drops to 350 km at 130 km/h. Real-world range is near to the WLTP figures. The base prices are near 40,000€ and the version tested was above 57,300€.
One downside is with a fully-loaded car and a family, cargo volume becomes quite tight. It is not a van. It may be wise to also invest in a roof box. A mesh net would be a nice addition in the car's design, too.
The presenter admits to being unsure about how exactly they would use this car and put it through its paces as a day-to-day driver. While the electrical set-up and comfort are generally well-received, the price is high compared to others.
