Tesla Model S Plaid review - what will it do 0-60mph?
Uploaded 3 years ago by carwow
Video Summary
The design is sleek, similar to the old Model S, but cooler. Chrome is replaced with black trim. The Plaid version has a less horrible boot-lip spoiler.
Wheel sizes start at 19 inches, considered too small, and can be upgraded to 21 inches for an extra 4,400 pounds. It retains flush door handles.
The price is approximately £96,000.
The interior features a yoke-style steering wheel, which may be annoying and is the only available option in the UK.
There are touch-sensitive controls on the steering wheel that are easy to brush by accident. Most functions, including mirrors and steering wheel adjustments, are on the screen.
The screen is now landscape, which is a preferred improvement. The processor running the infotainment system is as powerful as that in a PlayStation 5.
The quality is better than the previous generation, but build quality can be iffy in places, such as the cupholder cover.
Knee room is good, but head room isn’t ideal for taller passengers. It features a massive glass roof. Back seat passengers can’t stretch their feet due to the low seats, leading to under-thigh support issues. There is a lack of through-loading. There is climate control and streaming services available to back seat passengers.
It has a front trunk (frunk) and 793 liters of rear boot space.
If the key is in a pocket, the car unlocks automatically and locks as one walks away, which can be annoying.
The horn is difficult to activate.
Some cars have indented window seals, creating wind noise.
The car has standard adaptive air suspension that automatically lowers the car’s ride height at higher speeds.
This Plaid version has one electric motor in the front and two in the rear, generating 1,020 horsepower and 1,400 Nm of torque.
Though it weighs 2,160 kg, the low center of gravity keeps it relatively flat when cornering.
It has Tesla's noise-canceling stereo system to improve the quietness in the cabin.
It has a boombox feature that plays music through front speakers for pedestrian protection.
Tested acceleration from 0 to 60 mph was 2.40 seconds, which wasn’t achieved due to only 60 percent battery charge on collection. The 1.99 claimed 0 to 60 performance is without “roll out”.
It handles very well and comes highly recommended. The reviewer has one on order and expects the vehicle will be perfect once it arrives. When the tester began weaving into the highway lanes, the auto-drive control became upset at the violation and became more alert.
The vehicle also features new climate control, and heated seats.
