The BMW i4 M50 is a GREAT CAR, Just NOT for the Reason You Think....

Video Summary

The BMW i4 M50 is the first all-electric car to come from BMW's Motorsport division and is important for the firm's future. Compared to a previous Audi Q4 test drive, this model is far more successful. It's a compelling car, one to even consider buying. For BMW fans there are a few tough truths, though. The i4 M50 has 540 horsepower with almost 600 pound-feet of torque. This is less impressive, though, because this happens mostly if "boost mode" is engaged. With it’s weight it's comparable to a Porsche Taycan, about 2.3 tons. There are comfort settings and an individual setting. All told it is good, fun, and rapid, with high revving engines having been swapped out. The interiors used to be impeccably laid out and are now plastic with gimmicks no one needs. The review thinks the once naturally aspirated, high revving engines have been binned in favor of turbochargers, hybrid, and full electric power. Style is lacking.
The adaptive dampers in comfort mode are useful. Road and wind noise are minimal. There is a usable and helpful head-up display. The steering wheel is too chunky and squishy. Visibility is decent with okay seats. Lane assist and other automated driving systems are very unintrusive. The i4 is more or less the size of a BMW 3-series which makes the name odd. Range from the U.S. EPA testing cycle, is 227-280 miles for the 81 kilowatt battery, and it has a 200 kilowatt charging capacity. All that said, the car has a base price of 71,000 pounds with another 12 grand in options. Expect big initial depreciation. In the end there's not much that makes driving an M50 "amazing." For this, maybe consider a used model.
