The Kia EV6 has updated exterior and interior styling and added tech. It has a remote control that lets you move the empty car forward and backward. New features from the Hyundai Ioniq 5N have been added. The car can mimic gear changes like an internal combustion engine car. The bonnet has been re-profiled for a lower leading edge, but the difference is hard to spot. There are new light designs and a full length light bar, similar to the Sportage. The GT gets a more aggressive lower bumper, though the bumper appearance varies based on the model. Updated side profile includes new alloy wheel designs. GT brake calipers are luminous green, there is additional interior luminosity, and glossy piano black plastic on the center console has been replaced. The infotainment system has been slightly updated, making it zippier, and has a performance timer to time 0-62 mph, quarter mile, and eighth mile runs. The changes are limited by how modern cars are made and the car's chassis "hard points," which cannot be economically changed. The side profile proportions and door apertures are similar to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 because both cars share a chassis made by Hyundai. The Kia EV6 shares its chassis with the Hyundai Ioniq 5. Both use the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). The new wheel design also features luminous brake calipers. The side profile looks the same as before. The presenter prefers the EV6's rear to the Ioniq 5's. The GT model has a full-length light bar at the rear as well. The lower rear bumper has been redesigned, and is different depending on the EV6 model. Modern car manufacturing limits major design changes due to hard points being set when the car is first designed. It isn't economical to alter the chassis to change these parts. The interiors of cars often aren't altered much. A new steering wheel has been used. There is more ambient lighting about the cabin. There is now a 15-watt wireless charging pad. It has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There is a good amount of storage. The lights have been turned on to show them. The EV6 has an individual drive mode that lets you customize the motor, steering, suspension and electronic stability control. A good thing is that, unlike other cars, you don't have to waggle your foot underneath it to open the boot as you just have to stand in the detection zone and it will automatically open. The ICE points are so easy to access on the new EV6 GT. Two baby seats can be installed and you can sqeeze an adult. The rear window is one that goes all the way down. For performance, a new torque vectoring system allows the car to send power to the wheels with the most grip, improving traction. There is fingerprint security, just like on a smartphone, to enable a driver profile. The 0 to 60 time in the wet was quick but not realistic due to the wet weather. While the steering is accurate, the steering feels rubbery and has minimal feedback. The windshield wipers at the front are quite noisy. There is no washer on the rear camera. It has better driving distance if going for an Air rather than a GT. It is £3,257 saving if you go for an old Kia EV6 rather than a new one. The EV6 range starts at £39,235 and the GT starts from just under £60,000 The normal EV6 model has a 63 kWh battery with 170hp and a claimed 265 mile range. The higher-powered EV6 has an 84 kWh battery and 324hp, claiming 339 miles. This GT is less expensive than the previous GT model The car is rated at 2.6 miles per kW, implying a realistic range of 220 miles, but a larger battery of 84 kW increases the range up to 361 miles. The limited size 52 litres boot with the sound system compared to the normal one of 490 litres, the small door bins, noisy wipers, and the lack of a rear washer. Because Hyundai owns Kia, the EV6 shares many parts with Hyundai Ioniq 5 but with a five-year warranty compared to seven years for the Kia. On paper the car is awesome, but it feels like the designers didn't quite make it as cool as a Tesla Model 3. A Tesla Model 3 is better on the whole, which is more fun to drive than this one. The final verdict is to consider and then shortlist the EV6.
