What I Wish I Knew Before Buying a Rivian R1S

Uploaded 2 months ago by Darren the Rivian Dad

Video Summary

The Rivian R1S with the max pack gets 400 miles rated but 365 miles real-world average range in summer and winter. Range anxiety isn't as big of a deal as expected in this vehicle. Tesla has set up great charging infrastructure, making public chargers easy to find, and access to Tesla chargers is a godsend. Public charging isn’t terrible, but it is pricey at 54 cents per kilowatt-hour. Home charging costs about seven to ten cents, so it is easy and spoils you. The cost to put in a home charger and buy the charger is around $1,000-$1,500. Charging isn't linear, especially in cold weather. Cold affects everything; it slows down the charging curve to protect the vehicle. 0-100 percent can take 1hr 15 min to 1hr 40 min to charge. The vehicle is family-friendly, but the third row shrinks storage almost non-existent. You’ll also become a spokesperson for the R1S whether you like it or not. There are plans to discuss off-roading, family travel, cold weather testing, and real-life Rivian ownership.
