Mazda's trying to make electric cars in China to take market share there and potentially sell those electric cars outside of China. Mazda's new electric car has been surprisingly popular in China.

The Mazda EZ-6 SUV and a sedan version, called the EZ-6 sedan, have been revealed. There is also a plug-in hybrid version of this car. With 20,000 pre-orders for the EZ-6, Mazda is aiming for 300,000 annual sales by 2027.

The EZ-60 SUV is sized similarly to a Zeekr 7X, a bit bigger than a Tesla Model Y. It has a very long stylish bonnet, but that makes for a very small boot, only about 350 liters. The trunk holds only about 350 litres. If you put the rear seats down, you get 2036 liters of space. The frunk has 126 liters of space.

It has a 26.5-inch 5k ultra-wide display. Rear passengers get touch screens for entertainment and media adjustments. There is an optional 23-speaker, 7-channel Dolby Atmos audio system designed for audiophiles.

Range extender, has a 72-kilowatt, 1.5-liter engine only used as a generator. The electric motor has 190 kilowatts with a 31.7 kilowatt-hour LFP battery for 160 kilometers of range (CLTC), which is about 100 to 120 kilometers in the real world.
It has an option of nine airbags and Level 2 driver assistance supported by five HD cameras, five millimeter-wave radars, and 12 ultrasonic sensors for 360-degree coverage.

The battery-protection system, developed with CATL and CALB, has eight layers of safety measures. All is designed to exceed 2026 regulatory standards in China; the battery is made not to catch fire, even if crashed.

An EV version of the Sedan has 190kW motor and a range of 480 to 600 kilometers, with the smaller or bigger batteries, respectively. Fast charging takes 30 to 80 percent in 15 minutes; fuel consumption of extended range version is at 3.6 liters per 100 kilometers.

The standard features include a 14.6-inch infotainment screen, a 50-inch augmented-reality heads-up display powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip, and a 14-speaker Sony audio system. The platform used in this EV is the CELL to chassis design. This makes construction a more modular process, allowing manufacturers to more efficiently produce EVs.
