Zeekr 001 AWD | 610km (380mi) LONG TRIP TEST

Video Summary

The Zeekr 001 is being put through a difficult long trip test to expose its weaknesses as an EV. The car almost failed on every important criteria.  It's related to the Polestar 4 with the same platform, underpinnings, and electronics.  Issues with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) are noted; it is not very smooth to use.  The d-pad is hard to use and slow to respond. While it provides haptic feedback, it registers clicks only one out of ten times. Its average energy consumption is 23.8 kWh/100km.  Its predicted arrival battery percentage was off, leading to lower range estimations than expected. The ADAS features ceased functioning after a point.  While comfortable and quiet, ADAS features were not reliable overall. However, the car does have good visibility, a beautiful interior and next level Yamaha sound system, which at this price point, is probably the best sound system he's ever heard. A more reliable ZEEKR maps app is in development and was available in the 7X.  The trip started with 53% state of charge, ending at 12%; requiring charge to return to a target percentage. Also, a wind in the southwest direction aided consumption, which increases range.  During the test, the average consumption was 22kWh/100km. On the long trip, for a while all of the ADAS features, sensors, cameras, and radar had shut off. However, at the finish, the presenter says most of the functions were working, and a little less battery had been consumed overall. Apple car play and google maps are used frequently.  The test resulted in a correction to charging up to 55% of the total chart. There are many issues, thus making this an EV that is not competitive. This Chinese car is far from performing at the quality of some German competitors.  Driving at a high speed causes the switch from "one pedal" to the "coasting" mode to be very sensitive, making it a difficult and unenjoyable driving experience. Overall this is among the worst experiences the reviewer has had in an EV.
