The Mercedes CLA will come both all-electric and with a combustion engine. The goal is to regain technology leadership. Some years ago, German cars were leading in technology, but new manufacturers have risen, especially Chinese manufacturers presenting new infotainment and charging technologies. Mercedes wants to strike back for the car industry with the CLA.The most interesting thing is the new grill. In the electric version it will be with small stars, optionally illuminated, and the illuminated logo. In the US model, the ring around the logo is illuminated, which is not allowed in the EU.
The new grill is split from the main headlamp unit, with a light strip around.
The base model will have no illumination behind the grill; it will have the same structure with tiny stars, but they are not illuminated. The optional matrix LED is available with the Multibeam LED. The base model would have the star structure on the inside, but not illuminated.
The combustion engine model won't look too different; it will have the illumination at the inside of the grill, but not the illuminated stars.
The length is 4.70m or 185 inches and higher than the predecessor due to the battery pack on the lower part.
A new modular platform called MMA (Mercedes Modular Architecture), is built on the same platform for the electrical and combustion engine.
Wheels range from 17 to 19 inches. This lower graphic is the AMG line, an AMG Line Plus is also available, which includes the night package.
The electric version has an 800-volt charging architecture. The charging value will be 300kW maximum DC peak. Charging for 10 minutes yields 300km or 190 miles of range.
The car has two battery sizes: either 58 kWh LFP or 85.5 kWh NMC. Range can almost go up to 800km or 500 miles, which may turn into more realistic 600 km or 370 miles. It has 11-kW AC charging.
In the interior you have great technology but limited physical controls for AC and radio. Two USB-C charging ports with 100W power each are in the front, and two 100W USB-C ports are in the rear.
You can expect full CarPlay and Android Auto on a super-screen-style infotainment system. There will be turbine-style AC vents.
There's a cool trunk frunk in the all-electric CLA, which has 100 liters of volume.
On some versions, adaptive cruise control is available.
The interior may not be the comfiest, and this could be disappointing for some buyers.
In the combustion engine model, power is about 140/170/190 hp from a 1.5L 4-cylinder petrol. It will come as FWD or AWD.
