All-new Polestar 4 – Tesla and Porsche better watch out

Uploaded 1 year ago by Auto Express

Video Summary

The Polestar 4 does not sit in a specific market segment. It is approximately 4.8 meters long and rivals saloon EVs like Mercedes-Benz EQE, BMW i5 and crossover EVs like the Kia EV6 and Mustang Mach-E.

Its silhouette is sleek and streamlined but is not a traditional SUV.

The car doesn’t have a rear window; the rear of the car has been redesigned. Pushing back the rear header rail unlocks some rear seat space.

A rear-view camera feeds an image to a screen where the rear-view mirror used to be.

Polestar 2 and 3 share a technical toolkit with various Volvos. Polestar 5 will be based on a bespoke chassis.

Polestar 4 finds its heart in a Chinese Geely toolkit used by Smart and Zeekr.

All UK Polestar 4 models will have a 100-kilowatt hour battery pack and one or two motors. The top-spec dual motor has 538-brake horsepower and has a range of 360 miles on a charge, and it charges at 200 kilowatts.

The single-motor entry-level model keeps its 100-kilowatt-hour battery but loses the front motor. It reduces power to 268 brake horsepower with an increased range of 379 miles. Both offer the same charging capability.

Vehicle-to-load is available, turning the car into a mobile battery pack.

Ride and handling have been improved from the Polestar 2.

The interior is typically Polestar: sleek and techy.

The interior is dominated by digital interfaces underpinned by Google. Maps, media, and the personal assistant are built into the system.

There is a 10.2-inch display for driving functions and a chunky heads-up display as well.

The cabin is slick and well-built.

The second row is spacious, and three adults can fit. The seat has a big, open load space.

The design tries to make the car look less bulky.

Two-piece headlights separate that original Thor's hammer headlight motif.

The model also has Sustainable material that is also recyclable.

Pricing starts at under £60,000 for the single-motor long-range edition and over £67,000 for the dual-motor car.

An additional £4000 performance package is available to the dual-motor car only, adding bigger brakes, a retuned suspension, and gold styling details.

At the point of leaving the factory, 19.9 tons of CO2e have been produced in its manufacturing.

That is 20% less than the smaller Polestar 2, showing a transparency when it comes to how green their cars are.
