Video Summary
The 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona RT is the first new Dodge the reviewer has ever touched. It features a racetrack design on the tail and a glowing Fratzog in the middle. The car's lines stay relatively true to the old second-generation charger, with "coke bottle" details. The lines from the front to rear body are also inspired from the old charger.
The design element of door scoops from the old charger is absent, resulting in a smooth look. The front end is well-liked and aggressive in appearance. The new Charger is intended to fill both Challenger and Charger roles, as a two and four-door car.
Although it looks flashy in pictures due to the LED lights, it's cool and angry-looking in person. Its front is similar to the outgoing Challenger but different from the 1968 Charger. The rear spoiler is subtle.
The car has heated seats, a heated steering wheel, and a large glass roof that the reviewer appreciates. It looks pretty simplistic and naked in design. He missed having an old-school dash and stereo like the 1968 Charger.
An Escape button is located in the trunk, below the cover.
Tires have Z-rated Goodyear Eagle Sports, known to wear faster on electric cars.
The R/T Stage 1 tested produces 460+ hp and 404 ft/lbs of torque. The Scat Pack makes 630 hp and over 600 torque. The electric powertrain has an 8-year or 100,000-mile limited warranty.
There is a one-pedal drive feature, where letting off the gas slows you down or completely stops the car. This electric car can simulate gear shifting and increase the regenerative braking with steering wheel paddles.
The infotainment screen can be turned off completely. That function is appreciated, and it also offers navigation and driving-mode-based customizability. There were some instances of the navigation screen glitching out. Overall, it sounds like an engine in gear, and a reviewer states the car makes one "hallucinogenic" noise. Also the "fratzonic chambered exhaust "makes the sound.
It's noted that this is the Stage 1 R/T, implying future models with more performance. It's a very heavy car at 5,600 pounds. With traction control turned off, it won't show a full wheel slip on acceleration. The rear seat is spacious, with USB charging ports and available heated seats.
However, one complaint is that the rear seatbelts are tucked in and hard to reach.
Driving the car feels incredibly torquey, but there is a lack of visceral feel to acceleration. When using all of its available power, the vehicle has a tendency to lift its entire nose. While cornering, the adaptive steering helps maintain the line. It is "maddeningly" consistent. It's also effortless and fun to drive and gets to speed very quickly.
It is believed to be unique, and you "can't be mad about" its existence.
It may need some quality control and program fixes early, due to the prototype character of the first production year.
A full charge is estimated at 268 miles, and takes ten hours, 240v. The fast charger version (level 3) charges the vehicle from 20 to 80% in about one hour. This version of the car is at a price of just under $71,000 (US).
