Chevrolet Silverado DC Fast Charging Analysis

Video Summary

Here is a summary of the YouTube video review about an electric car.

The Chevy Silverado EV is one of the best DC fast-charging electric vehicles. It was recently charged at a 350 kW EVgo DC fast-charging station from 10% to 80% State of Charge.  The full charging process was recorded in a time lapse, and analyzed with graphs and charts.
During testing on the highway at 70 miles per hour, the vehicle achieved 441 miles of range. A 10% to 80% charge is important, as that's the rate that people use on long road trips. Nobody usually charges the car from 0% to 100%.
The Silverado EV can accept up to 350 kilowatts and has a massive battery pack with a usable capacity of 205 kWh, maybe a little more; it can be close to 212 or 213 kWh. The total capacity is around 230 or even 240 kWh, this allows the car to hold a high charge rate. In less than a minute after being plugged in, it was blazing and charging at 346 kW, just under its maximum charging rate of 350 kW. It went from 10% to 20% in four and a half minutes. An additional 4 minutes was required to get to 30%.
It adds 20% of its battery pack in less than 9 minutes and it still charges at 346 kW. It adds 250 miles of range in under 18 minutes and is not thermal throttling at this point. It's the natural charging curve of the Silverado. It still charges at 300 kW all the way to 50%.

Regarding the Time to Charge Chart, from 10% to 80% took a little over 40 minutes. The vehicle was adding 10.2 miles of range every minute while charging. For the first 20 minutes, the vehicle was charging quickly. Over 300 kilowatts was held for about the first 10 minutes of charging. It added 100 miles in under 10 minutes. All this is a good sign, but make sure to turn on battery conditioning for at least 30 minutes before arriving at a DC fast-charging station, or enter the charging station as a destination in the navigation system so it will automatically turn on the battery conditioning.

The chart makes it easy to estimate charge times, allowing drivers to plan road trips. The chart includes data points for the average kilowatts, and added energy, and the total EPA driving range. General Motors needs to be applauded for developing a good charging system. 150 miles of driving range can be added in under 15 minutes. Silverado EV owners will be very happy.
