Ford Puma Electric: The One We've Been Waiting For?!

Video Summary

The Ford Puma Gen-E is the most exciting electric Ford to date. The car is a little bit small; only 4.2 meters long. For the last two years, and this year to date, the petrol version has been the UK’s best seller. Good things about this car are that it’s pretty affordable, easy to live with, and fun to drive. It is small, but not tiny. It is a compact crossover, but not extremely crossover-y. The wheel arches are body-colored instead of scratchy black plastic. It is good to know the two launch colors are this blue and a very bright yellow. Two differences on this electric model are the bluff grille and the slightly different light signature with three strikes, perhaps Mustang inspired. Less good is the smaller battery. Only 43kWh at launch. With a good 4.4 miles to the kWh, it can go 190 miles. The high floor does hinder legroom slightly.

With that driving seat in my optimal driving position, I could get in behind myself, so the rear seats aren’t as bad as they look.

The boot, or mega-box, is 574 liters, which is 100+ liters larger than the Kia EV3. The boot lid is small. All camera equipment and that storage section went into the box. It is all very sensible and useful with lots of storage.

But what about the sensible stuff?
There's actual steering feel, not ruinsly. It is pretty comfy.  There is also a proper one-pedal drive setting. ADAS settings require menu diving and the brake pedal feel is imperfect. But it's also on par with the petrol Puma ST at a lower price point, if performance matters.

Overall, this is a return to form for Ford.
This car feels bigger than it is, with a high shoulder line, flat dash and a steering wheel that “looks off a pickup truck."

While you can’t deny it is a good little car, and definitely better than other “MEB platform cars,” it has its competition. To name a few, there is the R5, The Elroq, and The EV3.

Some bonus facts: if you’re in the UK and buy an EV Puma, Ford is going to install a home charger and give you 10,000 miles of free charge credit.
