Lucid Air Pure RWD | $69,900 Future of Sport Sedans

Video Summary

The Lucid Air Pure, rear-wheel-drive edition, has updated pricing, and now costs $70,000.

It carries over some of the software from the Sapphire model.

It also borrows some of the chassis tuning and suspension calibration.

It’s a tire-shredding monster.

The exterior and interior haven't changed much.

Lucid has made manufacturing improvements in quality control and running changes.

The price gets you into the car for financing or leasing.

The brand hopes to provide a better experience than the "dead-eyed, dead-souled EVs".

The Lucid Air Pure is a car first, unlike a science experiment.

Everything has a cohesive design.

The doors wrap around into the center dashboard.

The floating gauge cluster uses chosen materials and wood veneer, and nothing feels cheesy.

It was designed to be an EV from the ground up, not a retrofitted internal combustion car.

It has a massive amount of space inside, like a long-wheel-base sedan in the footprint of a medium or large car.

Because of larger door size there’s more leg and hip room, and has storage.

The front trunk area has usable space because there is no ICE gear.

The trunk is huge, fitting two worldwide luggage pieces in the back.

It’s a first-generation product where quality control was improving.

What you get here compared to a BMW for the same price is this level of cohesion.

A big deal is the car being designed ground up as an EV.

You do not have the glass canopy, making it feels more solid and with reduced sound.

The audio system doesn’t suffer as much from glass canopy echos.

The new car felt acoustically better than the others because there was less road noise.

What you're getting is a sample to experience what this brand is trying to do.

The technology is a mixed bag.

The car carries the Sapphire’s suspension calibration and software.

Some of the inputs, however, use a touch screen.

It will depend on the charger because EV chargers may not always be open or up to speed.

There's no Android auto and that means android auto users are out of luck.

Also that it was lacking wireless Apple carplay.

The instrumentation has improved significantly since it came out.
The chassis and suspension are made with aluminum.

It is at 4500 lbs vs 5200 which is a seven hundred pound reduction.

Its spring rates are designed for a lighter car.

It has peak range of 410 miles on nineteen-inch tires.

At highway speeds with normal conditions, the real world is closer to 300 miles.

It's one of our favorite modern EVs and the most efficient EV out there.

Build quality is not as high as with other luxury sedans, like Porsche and BMW.

The tire and aerodynamics choice on this car improves the efficiency, but may sacrifice ultimate performance.

There are limited places to stop and charge a car up and down the Midwest if it's needed for long trips.

Lucid does not provide a great colour pallet and everything's a bit monochromatic.

Even in sprint mode stability control is coming in making this still a traditional sedan.

But the traditional setup on suspension is good, and there is chassis dynamic and balance.

They prioritize driving dynamics and experience on these over pure gimmicks in this market.

That said if you want it as a track car this probably not your choice either.
