The Kia EV4 is intended to be the Golf for the electric age. It’s one of three EVs unveiled at an event in Barcelona, which also included the new PV5 van and the EV2 concept. The EV4 is very closely related to the Kia EV3 and is considered best in class. It's aimed as a practical electric family car. The EV4 is available as a hatchback and a saloon. There are too many lines and creases in sections like the bonnet. In contrast, side on the saloon version looks cool with its boat tail rear deck. Kia is continuing to bother making hatchbacks and saloons, with this one available as both and not just as SUVs.
Two battery options are available: 55 kWh or 78 kWh usable. It has front-wheel drive single motor with 0-60 mph times in the mid 7-second range, 7.4 or 7.7 depending on the configuration. Vehicle to load, vehicle to grid functionality comes as standard. The battery platform is the good charging E-GMP. It should give genuine 350+ electric car range in the right conditions.
The interior is based on the Kia EV3, which is well thought out and the reviewer considers one of the best currently available. It provides buttons and switches for the most essential controls. Software changes include the latest version of Kia's regen braking system, now memorizing the setting from last use. There is also an AI-powered voice command system. Also, included is digital key technology that now works with Apple Watches. Good head room and visibility in the front. Knee room is higher in the back due to batteries under the floor.
The boot is not that big, as the lid suggests. The design is more simpler and cleaner. It has the brand’s light signature.
In the end, the concept car EV2 was viewed as the EV4s design being “fussy and complicated design”. With that and other items noted the reviewer seems to be “excited for this” version overall.
