New Mazda 6e: Has Mazda FINALLY found its EV mojo? | Electrifying

Video Summary

The new Mazda 6e will be available with pure electric, plug-in hybrid, and range extender powertrains. Only the EV is confirmed for the UK for now. The front features a filled-in Mazda grill. The lights indicate charge levels when plugged in. It has a decent frank of 70 liters.

The car is 4.9 meters long and has interesting sculpted side bits. The back pokes out a bit, and there is a concern that this may be damaged more easily than the bottom of the bumper, so this could become costly. There’s a spoiler that pops up at 56 mph. It is a hatchback.

The boot appears to be bigger than its reported 330 liters, which is equivalent to the VW ID.3. Inside, the frameless doors are a nice touch. The interior suede feels like slippers but it looks good and different. There’s a 14.6-inch screen with gesture control. There is an augmented reality heads-up display and a snow mode.

The standard range model has a 258 hp motor powering the back wheels, wired to a 68.9 kWh LFP battery, giving a 310-mile range. An 11 kW AC figure is disappointing. A lithium-ion 80 kWh battery is used in a longer-range model, giving a 345-mile range; but with the longer range model there is a reduction in horsepower to 244. It has 200kW charging.

Overall, it’s a good-looking and competent car with figures that add up. It may look a little outdated by 2026 when it becomes available in the UK.
