Skoda Elroq 50 review | Skoda’s new affordable electric SUV arrives to shake up the EV market

Video Summary

The Skoda Elroq has a starting price of just over €36,000 in the Irish market.

It compares with the Skoda Karoq SUV in price, but its style looks more like the smaller Kamiq.

It is a large, chunky car, but doesn't look big at first glance.

The €36,000 version is the 170-horsepower, rear-wheel drive.

It sits on the same basic MEB platform as the larger Enyaq.

Electric car sales are falling, but the Enyaq is the fourth best-selling EV in Europe.

The Elroq is already doing well, even though deliveries will not begin until April/May.

25,000 people across Europe have already placed a deposit on one.

Range performance is less impressive; the base version has a small 52kWh usable battery capacity.

The base range is under 400km (290-300km in damp/chilly conditions).

It’s priced against the Kia EV3, which has better range.

It has good boot capacity (470 liters), slightly bigger than the Kia EV3.

This car has a power boot.

The boot has a low load lip, a square space, drawers for smaller items, bag hooks, and a parcel shelf and hammock.

The battery gets stored under the parcel shelf.

The parcel shelf is fully adjustable.

The seat has a split-level boot going.

The seats are able to fold down reasonably flat.

Inside, it’s a phenomenal job, with off-the-scale good quality levels.

It’s better than what VW or Audi are doing right now.

There's a soft recycled ocean plastic fabric for the dashboard and doors.

There's plenty of storage and space and good door bins.

The navigation and media are through a 13” touch screen, and the controls are slick.

The car has proper buttons on the steering wheel, not touch-sensitive pads.

The augmented reality heads-up display is good.

Rear seat space is plentiful, making it great for electrical family life.

The suspension is overwhelmed a bit by big tyres, and is fidgety.

The steering is well balanced and offers good feedback.

It’s difficult to see this car not doing well.
