Video Summary

The base model of the new Tesla Model Y is built in the US. People were sometimes torn with the Model 3 because of the five thousand dollar separation from the all-wheel drive. The all-wheel drive gives you more power and the premium sound system, making the all-wheel drive a little more of a car. This new Model Y base model is a powertrain difference; it retains the same interior as the launch edition interior. The acoustic laminated glass is the same. It feels like the same car overall, aside from the powertrain. The model has a 357-mile range on the 19-inch aero wheels. This is a little less than the reviewed car’s 363 on the 18s. The 20-inch wheels bring the range down to 344 miles. The all-wheel drive Model Y is 327 or 303, depending on the wheel configuration. 182 miles can be charged in 15 minutes on the 19-inch wheels, while 195 can be charged on this spec. The Model 3 base goes from 0 to 60 in 4.9 seconds at close to 300 horsepower. The Model Y base is projected to be 5.4 seconds to 60, half a second slower. The Model Y with the base specs has an availability of three to five weeks. Tesla quotes the price, with a tax credit, to be $37,500, but that’s $44,900. This base Model Y is 4 thousand under the long-range all-wheel drive, and two thousand five hundred dollars more than the Model 3. The 1.99% APR on all-wheel drive models doesn’t extend to the rear-wheel drive. Spec'ing all of the options brings the total price to $61,990.
