Overview
The 2024 Fisker Ocean Extreme was a head-turning, eco-conscious electric SUV aiming to shake up the premium EV space. As the top-tier trim, the Extreme packed a punch with impressive range, stonking performance, and a raft of desirable features like its SolarSky roof. Though its production was short-lived and it's now discontinued, finding one on the used market could snag you a unique EV, with current estimates around $19,000. It’s a bold statement on wheels, designed with sustainability at its core and plenty of California cool.
What's New for 2024?
For its brief 2024 model year run before discontinuation, the Fisker Ocean Extreme was focused on refinement through over-the-air (OTA) software updates. These aimed to enhance system performance, introduce new features, and squash early bugs, improving the user experience for the infotainment and driver-assistance systems. While no major hardware changes distinguished the 2024 models from the initial 2023 launch units, these ongoing software improvements were key to unlocking the Ocean's full potential. Unfortunately, its production journey was cut short, making "new" a bittersweet term.
Design & Exterior
The Fisker Ocean Extreme boasts a seriously striking design that’s both muscular and sleek, measuring 188 inches long, 78 inches wide (excluding mirrors), and 64.1 inches tall. It’s a proper looker! Key Extreme trim highlights include massive 22-inch alloy wheels and the cool SolarSky panoramic roof that can actually add a few miles of range. Signature slim LED lighting front and rear gives it a futuristic vibe, while the unique "California Mode" drops all windows (bar the windscreen) at the touch of a button for an open-air experience.
Interior, Tech & Cargo
Step inside the Ocean Extreme, and you’re greeted by a spacious, minimalist cabin prioritizing sustainable materials, like recycled plastics and vegan upholstery, creating a premium, eco-chic ambiance for its five occupants. The showstopper is the massive 17.1-inch Revolve rotating touchscreen, flipping from portrait to landscape, complemented by a digital driver display. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were planned via OTA updates. Cargo space is decent at 16.8 cubic feet in the trunk, expanding to 32.4 cubic feet with seats folded, though it misses out on a frunk.
Performance & Driving Experience
The Ocean Extreme is no slouch, thanks to its dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup, featuring Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSM) front and rear. This powerhouse churns out a combined 420 kW (around 563 hp) and a hefty 544 lb-ft of torque, rocketing this SUV from 0-60 mph in a blistering 3.7 seconds! It can also tow up to 4,012 lbs. Different drive modes (Earth, Fun, Hyper) tailor the experience. Expect a composed ride, though some early reviews noted areas for suspension refinement. Regenerative braking helps recoup energy effectively.
Range, Battery & Charging
Packing a substantial 106.5 kWh usable battery, the Fisker Ocean Extreme delivers an impressive Green Cars Compare calculated real-world range of 369 miles, with an efficiency of 3.46 mi/kWh. Juice it up at home with its standard 11 kW onboard AC charger (a full charge taking around 10 hours). Out and about, it supports DC fast charging up to a speedy 250 kW via its CCS Type 1 port, meaning you can zap in significant range quickly. The Ocean Extreme also featured handy Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability.
Safety & Driver-Assistance Features
While official NHTSA or IIHS crash test ratings for the Fisker Ocean weren't released due to its short production run, the Extreme trim came equipped with Fisker’s "Intelligent Pilot" suite of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). Standard features typically included adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, and a surround-view camera system. These aim to provide a reassuring layer of safety and convenience, leveraging cameras and radar sensors to keep an eye on your surroundings.
Warranty & Maintenance Coverage
Originally, Fisker offered a competitive warranty: a basic 6-year/60,000-mile warranty, a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, and a battery warranty for 10 years/100,000 miles, guaranteeing at least 75% capacity. Roadside assistance was also included. However, with Fisker having ceased production and facing significant financial challenges including bankruptcy, the status and enforceability of these original warranty terms for existing owners are now highly uncertain. Prospective buyers on the used market should investigate this aspect carefully. No complimentary maintenance was standard.
