Overview
The 2024 Rivian R1S Performance Dual-Motor Standard+ is a three-row electric adventure SUV that perfectly blends blistering speed with go-anywhere capability. Positioned as a premium utility vehicle, this specific trim offers a compelling middle ground, packing the thrilling 3.5-second 0-60 mph punch of the Performance model with a balanced battery pack. It's a do-it-all machine for the family that refuses to compromise on fun. As this configuration was discontinued in 2024, it's now a hot ticket on the pre-owned market, with an estimated used price around $58,225.
What's New for 2024?
For 2024, Rivian rolled out its brilliant in-house "Enduro" dual-motor powertrains, and this Performance Dual-Motor variant was a key addition. It brought near-Quad-Motor levels of acceleration to a more efficient package. The introduction of the Standard+ battery pack created a new, more accessible tier in the R1S lineup. This particular combination of the Performance dual-motor setup and the Standard+ battery was a short-lived special, produced from 2023 but discontinued during 2024, making it a rather unique and sought-after configuration on the used market.
Design & Exterior
The R1S boasts an unmistakable design that’s both futuristic and ruggedly handsome. Its signature "stadium" headlights and full-width light bars make it instantly recognizable, day or night. The look is clean and monolithic, with flush door handles and a commanding presence that turns heads everywhere. Despite its tough aesthetic, it’s a sizable beast, measuring 200.8 inches long, 79.3 inches wide, and 77.3 inches tall. The Performance trim maintains this powerful look, built for conquering everything from city streets to mountain trails with undeniable style.
Interior, Tech & Cargo
Inside, the R1S wows with a minimalist yet luxurious cabin featuring high-quality vegan leather and sustainably sourced wood accents. With seating for five or seven, passenger space is ample, though the third row is best for kids. Cargo is a huge strength, offering a massive 11.1 cubic-foot frunk, 5.1 cubic feet of trunk space behind the third row, and a cavernous 79.9 cubic feet with the seats folded flat. Tech is centered around a huge, snappy touchscreen, but be warned—there's no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. It’s all-in on Rivian’s native system.
Performance & Driving Experience
Get ready to launch. This R1S rockets from 0-60 mph in a blistering 3.5 seconds thanks to its dual-motor AWD system. The in-house Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors deliver a combined 496 kW of power and a colossal 829 lb-ft of torque. It’s shockingly agile for a big SUV, carving through corners with confidence. The standard air suspension is the real MVP, providing a cushy ride on pavement while offering incredible articulation for off-road antics. Strong one-pedal driving makes city traffic a breeze and helps claw back energy.
Range, Battery & Charging
Powered by a 121 kWh usable battery pack, this R1S trim delivers a Green Cars Compare calculated real-world range of 300 miles, with an efficiency of 2.48 mi/kWh. At home, the standard 11.5 kW on-board AC charger can top it up overnight. On the road, its 400V architecture and CCS Type 1 port allow it to pull a maximum of 215 kW from a DC fast charger, zapping about 140 miles of range back into the battery in just 20 minutes under ideal conditions. It’s a solid setup for both daily driving and long-haul adventures.
Safety & Driver-Assistance Features
Rivian loads the R1S with an impressive suite of standard safety tech. The entire R1S model line earned a coveted Top Safety Pick+ award from the IIHS, reflecting its excellent crashworthiness. Every model comes with the "Driver+" assistance system, which includes Highway Assist—an advanced adaptive cruise control with lane centering that enables hands-free driving on select highways. It also packs standard Blind Spot Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, and 360-degree cameras, giving you a comprehensive safety net on every journey.
Warranty & Maintenance Coverage
Rivian backs the R1S with a solid warranty package. Owners are covered by a 5-year/60,000-mile comprehensive basic warranty. More importantly, the expensive bits—the battery pack and drivetrain components—are protected for an impressive 8 years or 175,000 miles, whichever comes first. The battery warranty also guarantees it will retain at least 70% of its original capacity during that period. Maintenance is streamlined via Rivian's mobile service, where technicians often come directly to you, minimizing downtime and hassle for routine checks and repairs.
