Overview
The Lucid Air Grand Touring Performance is an electric hyper-saloon that redefines luxury and speed. Positioned as a direct challenger to the Porsche Taycan Turbo S and Tesla Model S Plaid, this now-discontinued halo model blends mind-bending acceleration with a properly plush, high-tech cabin. Although official new pricing in Europe was scarce, its premium positioning placed it well into the six-figure bracket, with used models commanding a significant price. It’s a stunning showcase of EV engineering, wrapping staggering power in a sleek, sophisticated package that turns heads everywhere it goes.
What's New for 2024?
For its final model year, the 2024 Lucid Air lineup saw a significant shake-up. The dedicated Grand Touring Performance trim, produced from 2022 to early 2024, was officially discontinued as a standalone model. Instead, Lucid now offers a 'Performance' software upgrade for the standard Grand Touring model, unlocking a similar level of electrifying power. This change streamlines the range, making the ferocious performance an optional extra rather than a distinct trim level. The core package of luxury, tech, and design remains as compelling as ever in this final iteration.
Design & Exterior
The Lucid Air’s design is a masterclass in aerodynamic efficiency and Californian cool. Its sleek, futuristic silhouette is defined by a low-slung roofline and a massive clamshell bonnet and boot. Measuring 4975 mm long, 1936 mm wide, and just 1408 mm high, its proportions are both elegant and imposing. The Grand Touring Performance trim features unique badging and often sported larger, more aggressive wheel designs. The full-width Micro Lens Array LED headlights and rear light bar give it an unmistakable signature on the road, day or night.
Interior, Tech & Cargo
Inside, the Air Grand Touring Performance is airy and exceptionally luxurious, with a stunning Glass Canopy roof flooding the cabin with light. Material quality is top-notch, with a minimalist yet functional design. The tech centrepiece is the curved 34-inch 5K Glass Cockpit display, paired with a central Pilot Panel for deeper controls, both now supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Passenger space is generous, and practicality is immense; you get a 456-litre boot, expanding to 627 litres, plus a class-leading 283-litre frunk for a massive total cargo capacity.
Performance & Driving Experience
This is where things get truly wild. With a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup using PMSM motors front and rear, the Grand Touring Performance unleashes a colossal 783 kW and 1249 Nm of torque. That’s enough to launch this luxury saloon from 0-100 km/h in a breathtaking 2.8 seconds. Despite this brutal acceleration, the ride is supple and refined thanks to its adaptive dampers. It’s a Jekyll and Hyde machine; a serene, comfortable cruiser one moment and a road-warping rocket ship the next, with strong, configurable regenerative braking to boot.
Range, Battery & Charging
Efficiency is Lucid’s trump card. The Grand Touring Performance packs a 111 kWh usable battery, delivering an impressive Green Cars Compare estimated real-world range of 682 km. Its energy consumption is a frugal 6.14 km/kWh. The groundbreaking 900V architecture allows for brutally fast charging via its CCS Type 2 port. At a DC fast charger, it can suck down power at up to 300 kW. For AC charging, its standard 19.2 kW on-board charger is one of the fastest available, ensuring quick top-ups at home or destinations.
Safety & Driver-Assistance Features
Safety is a top priority, underscored by the Lucid Air’s 5-star Euro NCAP rating. This trim comes standard with Lucid’s comprehensive 'DreamDrive Pro' suite of advanced driver-assistance systems. This impressive package includes over 30 features, such as Highway Assist (adaptive cruise control with lane centring), a surround-view camera system, blind-spot monitoring, and automated parking. It’s one of the most advanced sensor suites on the market, using a combination of cameras, radar, and even high-resolution LIDAR for enhanced reliability and future-proofing.
Warranty & Maintenance Coverage
Lucid provides a solid warranty package for European owners. The basic vehicle is covered for 4 years or 80,000 km, whichever comes first. More importantly, the high-voltage battery and powertrain components are protected for 8 years or 160,000 km. This includes a guarantee that the battery will retain at least 70% of its original capacity during that period. While specific complimentary maintenance plans can vary by region, Lucid's direct-to-consumer model includes over-the-air software updates and mobile service support, reflecting its modern approach to vehicle ownership and reliability.
