Overview
The Mercedes EQS SUV 450+ is a seriously swanky all-electric beast, positioning itself at the pinnacle of luxury seven-seaters (a five-seat layout is standard). For 2025, this rear-wheel-drive entry point to the EQS SUV family balances oodles of range with pure, unadulterated comfort. It's designed for those who want a silent, super-plush ride and cutting-edge tech without necessarily needing the all-wheel-drive grip of pricier trims. Expect to shell out around €124,545 for a new one, with used examples from earlier years around €88,950. It’s a proper land yacht, electric style!
What's New for 2025?
For 2025, the EQS SUV 450+ gets a rather tasty refresh! Most notably, it now packs a bigger 118 kWh (usable) battery, up from the previous 108.4 kWh, promising even more kilometres between plug-ins. There's a redesigned front end, now sporting a classier grille with chrome slats and Mercedes' iconic standing star on the bonnet. Inside, the rear seats get more plush with an improved comfort package as standard. Software tweaks for regenerative braking and a standard heat pump further refine its already impressive efficiency credentials for European climates.
Design & Exterior
This electric behemoth is pure Mercedes EQ: smooth, aerodynamic, and seriously imposing. The 2025 EQS SUV 450+ features the signature "one-bow" silhouette adapted for a commanding SUV stance, measuring a substantial 5125 mm in length, 1959 mm in width (excluding mirrors), and 1718 mm in height. For the new model year, it gets a fresh face with a slick new grille design and the classic Mercedes star perched proudly on the bonnet, lending it an even more distinguished and upright look. Standard wheels on the 450+ are typically elegant, complementing its luxurious character.
Interior, Tech & Cargo
Step inside the EQS SUV 450+ and you’re greeted by an oasis of calm and top-tier luxury. Materials are exceptionally plush, and the build quality is impeccable. It offers vast passenger space, with seating for five as standard or an optional third row to accommodate seven. Cargo capacity is generous at 645 litres in the boot, expanding to a cavernous 2100 litres with the rear seats folded flat; however, there's no frunk. Tech-wise, the standard MBUX setup features a large central touchscreen and digital driver’s display, with the jaw-dropping Hyperscreen available as a show-stopping option.
Performance & Driving Experience
The EQS SUV 450+ is all about effortless, serene progress. Its single Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) on the rear axle delivers a potent 265 kW and a healthy 568 Nm of torque, wafting this big SUV from 0-100 km/h in a respectable 6.8 seconds, with a top speed of 210 km/h. While it’s rear-wheel drive, traction is plentiful for most conditions. The driving experience prioritises supreme comfort and quietness, with sophisticated suspension soaking up bumps brilliantly. Regenerative braking is smooth, highly configurable, and allows for effective one-pedal driving if you fancy it.
Range, Battery & Charging
Juice comes from a new, larger 118 kWh usable battery pack for 2025, giving the EQS SUV 450+ an impressive real-world range estimate of 558 km, as calculated by Green Cars Compare. Its efficiency is rated at a decent 4.73 km/kWh. Charging via its European-standard CCS Type 2 port is versatile: the standard 11 kW AC onboard charger will top it up overnight (around 11 hours), with a 22 kW optional unit nearly halving that. For rapid top-ups, it can guzzle electrons at up to 200 kW on a DC fast charger, zapping from 10-80% in about 31 minutes.
Safety & Driver-Assistance Features
Safety is paramount in this flagship Merc. The EQS SUV has already bagged a full five-star rating from Euro NCAP, so peace of mind comes as standard. The 450+ is loaded with advanced driver-assistance systems. Expect the comprehensive Driving Assistance Package to be standard or a very common fitment, bundling features like intelligent adaptive cruise control, active lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and traffic sign recognition. For 2025, Mercedes has also enhanced its automatic lane change function for even smoother highway cruising, further boosting its credentials.
Warranty & Maintenance Coverage
Mercedes-Benz typically backs the EQS SUV 450+ with a standard 2-year unlimited kilometre vehicle warranty in Europe, which can often be extended. Crucially, the high-voltage battery gets a much longer certificate: usually 10 years or 250,000 km, guaranteeing at least 70% of its original capacity. Powertrain coverage generally aligns with this extensive battery warranty. While specific complimentary maintenance plans can vary by market, Mercedes’ reputation for solid engineering underpins the car’s reliability, though its cutting-edge tech means specialist care is key for long-term satisfaction.
