What's New for 2025?

For 2025, the IM 6 is an entirely new model making its debut in Europe under the MG brand. It brings parent company SAIC’s advanced technology from the premium IM Motors brand to a wider audience. The big news is its state-of-the-art 800V electrical architecture, a feature typically found on much pricier EVs, which unlocks incredibly fast charging speeds. This inaugural model introduces a fresh design language for MG’s larger vehicles and comes packed with the latest infotainment and driver-assistance systems, setting a new benchmark for the brand in the competitive electric SUV segment.

The MG IM 6 Performance boasts a sleek, aerodynamic SUV profile that looks both modern and athletic. Its smooth lines and clean surfaces are punctuated by sharp LED lighting signatures at the front and rear, giving it a distinctive on-road presence. This Performance version is expected to feature larger, more aggressive alloy wheels and subtle sporty accents to differentiate it. It’s a sizeable vehicle, measuring 4904 mm in length, 1988 mm in width, and 1669 mm in height, ensuring it looks substantial and purposeful, ready to square up against premium European alternatives.

Inside, the IM 6 Performance offers a minimalist, tech-focused cabin with a premium feel. The dashboard is dominated by large, crisp screens for both the driver’s display and central infotainment, which will likely support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. With seating for five, passenger space is generous. Practicality is a massive plus point; you get a cavernous 665-litre boot, which expands to a van-like 1640 litres when the rear seats are folded down. The IM 6 Performance is equipped with a substantial 96.5 kWh usable battery pack. According to Green Cars Compare's calculations, this delivers a practical real-world range of approximately 428 km on a full charge, with an excellent efficiency of 4.44 km/kWh. Thanks to its 800V architecture, DC fast charging is phenomenal, peaking at a massive 369 kW under ideal conditions. For home charging via its European CCS Type 2 port, the standard 11 kW on-board charger provides a solid overnight top-up. This setup makes both daily commutes and long-distance road trips incredibly convenient.

Safety & Driver-Assistance Features

While an official Euro NCAP safety rating is not yet available for this new model, it’s expected to come loaded with a comprehensive suite of safety technology. As the top-spec trim, the Performance model will almost certainly feature a full array of advanced driver-assistance systems as standard. This should include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, active lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a 360-degree camera system, ensuring top-tier protection and driving convenience for all occupants.

The high-voltage battery pack will likely receive its own dedicated warranty, often covering 8 years/160,000 km and guaranteeing it will retain at least 70% of its original capacity. Like all electric vehicles, maintenance costs should be significantly lower than petrol or diesel equivalents, with fewer moving parts and no need for oil changes.
